Art Integration: Enhancing Child Development and Learning

The concept of art plays an important role in the development and learning of children. Art is a form of expression where individuals are able to express their own feelings, ideas, and creativity. By incorporating art integration with schools from grades K-12 students demonstrate a high academic performance and a happy, satisfying safe school environment where students are successfully open to learning and are not afraid to show their true self. To begin with, schools that incorporate the art integration within their academics has demonstrated a higher student performance in their math, English, and reading skills. Cornett states that “teachers promote individual strength” (Cornett). Teachers incorporate art integration into academics by coming up with a creative way of teaching. Bob Riley a school principal of a public school in the city of Chicago believes that “The Classrooms is a teacher’s island. They have their students and their curriculum, teaching the way they teach” (2015). There is two type of motivational teachers. The first type is those teachers who have a passion for education but only focus on the aspect of teaching their students the important common core standards that must be achieved before the end of the year. The second type of teachers is those who have a strong passion for education but know how to successfully incorporate the arts into the standards which drive students to successfully achieve a high academic performance and a strong motivation for school. Likewise, Judy Kilma an art professor at the Integrated Arts Academy also believes that most teachers have the power to incorporate the arts into their subjects. According to Kilma “If you pick a subject area like science, social studies, math or literacy and you integrate it with an art form, what you do is connect the two and find ways to really integrate the two so they can lean on each other”
