Human TraffickingMore Than Ever From when Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 was issued, to the passage of the 13th amendment Lincoln he hoped for freedom for that this could free all the slaves. I don’t believe Lincoln for saw or thought slavery would be so dominate today.this is where he believed freedom for all would be. There are many forms of slavery in the modern world and just as many slaves now as there was atin the peak of the Atlantic Slave Trade. “As a matter of fact, slavery is more rampant today than it was in seventeenth century as there is an estimated 27 million modern slaves today(Clifford). One form of slavery sounds out from all of them and that would be human trafficking. This business dates all the way back to colonial times. Human trafficking today has grown into a very complex, multi-billion dollarbillion-dollar industry.

Its not an industry that just stands alone, it works exclusively with the drug trade. Many that become enslaved are forced to work in fields of poppy and other places. Louise Shelly wrote, “Drugs are used to recruit new victims, to retain them in an exploited state and to maximize their exploitation” (Shelly). The drugs forced upon the victims makes them dependent on their captors. This how traffickers keep complete control over their victims. More often it is the drug traffickers that enter the human trafficking market. With governments trying so hard to shut down the drug trade, it forces traffickers to find other business outlets. Shelly writes, “the risks of involvement in the human trade are less because few countries in the world have prioritized the prosecution of human smuggling or trafficking or the confiscation of asset”
