Sleep, why is sleep such an important part to living? Is there risk to not getting enough sleep? Researchers have pin point the key factors as to why sleep impacts individuals and society. Driving Impairment, appearance, and shift work these all are everyday things that go through an individual’s head, they seem to be lacking in importance though. Yet, They all relate in a way that many do not realize is truly a life or death situation for an individual or people in their vicinity. But, how does sleep play a significant factor in appearance, driving, and shift work? Falling asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle is considerable dangerous. It makes the driver of the vehicle vulnerable to many hazardous conditions as well as the surrounds pedestrians and motorist. After working a 12 hour shift, some may believe the two shots of double expresso may assist them in making it the 28 miles home, but factor in the physical exhaustion of work and the fact of lack of sleep the last 15 plus hours. Men are also more likely to drive drowsy than women, and men are twice as likely as women to actually fall asleep while at task. While driving while impaired is unsafe it has many other health risks involved, such as high stress levels and higher motor vehicular mortality wrecks.
