Ambition can consume leaders, nonetheless some leaders can handle the pressure that comes with having to lead individuals like Abraham Lincoln. However some leaders like Adolf Hitler and Macbeth allowed their ambition to get the best of them and cause harm. Hitler allowed his ambition to drive him to make catastrophic decisions such as trying to conquer other (stronger) countries, make dangerous weapons, torturer, and kill millions of innocent people. Whereas Macbeth allowed his ambition to kill the people that loved and supported him the most in order to gain control of the kingdom. Both Macbeth and Hitler illustrate leadership, but turned mad in order to consume more power.

The author also makes a comparison between Macbeth and Hitler to show how they both ignored all signs authenticities. They both believed in loyalty from all the people they ruled and believed that everyone should follow them. “The funny thing was, like Macbeth, Hitler ignored local realities. He expected complete loyalty from his erstwhile allies while treating them like minion. As you can see the author agrees that Macbeth and Hitler’s biggest flaw was their judgement. Both Macbeth and Hitler expected loyalty from everyone even when they treated them like the enemy. Lastly the author states that Hitler and his followers were nothing more then bullies to the other countries, and that is why they did not gain world power. They didn’t have the real power or real control they just bullied other countries into getting what they wanted isn’t of actually earning it. This related back to Macbeth, because Macbeth didn’t earn the position as king. They both shared many qualities when it came to ambition taking over them. They both manipulated there way into power, and they also believed they were invincible. Hitler killed millions of innocent people and Macbeth killed the people that loved him. In Macbeth, Shakespeare shows us the side effects of ambition. It’s like a drug that makes you believe you are indestructible and makes you act irrational. For example it says, "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o 'erleaps itself, and falls on th 'other" (Macbeth). The quote illustrate Macbeth desire for more power, his ambition drives his reasoning for killing the king. This is how he justifies it to himself. He 's saying he as nothing against the king its just part of the prophecy and his desire to gain more power. Lady Macbeth is also to blame when it comes to the death of King Duncan, she was the one that questioned Macbeths manhood and pressured him into murdering Duncan. It says, “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor, and shalt be What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o ' th ' milk of human kindness. To catch the nearest way.
