A hero too many people is someone who will devote his or her life to save other people’s lives, a hero to me is simply someone who can do it all without doing anything at all, they earn the right and are still there for you each and every day. The hero doesn’t have to wear a cape, they just have to be there when you need them the most. My dad is my number one hero, through everything that went on in my life, he is the one who is standing beside me and giving me the courage to keep going and to never give up. I am incredibly lucky to have such a caring, supportive, goofy and courageous father.
My dad is one of a kind, He is fairly tall, and he has brown hair with specks of grey, with green eyes that hide behind his glasses. He was what I like to make fun of him for and say a ‘pregnant belly.’ You can always find him in his million cameo shorts, T-shirts and reef flip flops. He is full of stories, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard them all a couple hundred times. My dad is the best dad there is, I know people say that a lot, but honestly, I don’t believe there is one better than mine. My mom and my dad got divorced when I was five; It was hard not having my dad around because he lived in Iowa and I lived with my mom in Arkansas. Usually when parents split up the children are the ones suffering, my dad made it as easy as possible because he was there for us whenever we needed him; no matter how far he was away. Even when he lived several hours away from us, he never missed a beat. He would drive those 6 hours frequently just to see us. A hero is someone you look up to, someone who has done something to inspire you, someone who is your role model. In our society, there are many different types of heroes—family, friends, teachers, firefighters, and police officers to name a few. But a hero that stands out to me is a U.S. soldier. Soldiers risk their lives every day just so we can have our freedom.
An English proverb states, “ A hero is a man who is afraid to run away”. I agree with this proverb, because when you see a hero in a comic book, they have super cool back stories, are not afraid to fight, and stare danger in the face and not blink. They are not afraid of anything. That’s nice to look up to, but they are not real. Our definition of a hero is too much for one man to become, you can do something honorable, heroic, but you will never actually be a hero because it's too much, in real life. Heroes don’t just do it so they can get paid, or respect. What really determines whether someone is a hero is if they choose to do something about it in a bad situation. We have people that do heroic acts, for example, people putting their lives before others. Those people cannot be heroes because they get paid to do it, they are, firefighters, cops, and military, they get paid to help people, so they aren't considered a hero.
Hero. Usually when this word is heard we think of Superman, Batman, Iron man and so on, but in reality what exactly is a hero? Who can be classified as heroic? From my perspective a hero is not only someone who wears a cape, has superhuman strength, wears fancy clothes or someone who saves his lady from the bad guy; however he is someone who stands for strength, bravery, humbleness, justice and equality. I believe a hero is someone who truly intends to make the world a better place for all people. He stands for what he believes in even though he may encounter danger and obstacle. We often watch movies with action heroes fighting for a good cause, but these heroes cause us ignore the real life heroes such as Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cesar Chavez and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr are genuinely the definition of a hero.
I was raised by my mother and grandmother. They kept my head leveled and taught me that working hard leads to success. I loved them, and they were my role models. I grew up in a middle class family with strong women. I learned independence, and the strong will to never give up. It was the summer of 2005 when my mother re-married, and I was in the eighth grade. My mother was happy because she found the conclusion to her life: a husband. I was ecstatic because I finally had a daddy! My hopes, wishes, and dreams had come true. I felt that God answered my prayers. I loved having a father figure, although I had certain doubts. My uncertainty came from the way he looked at me. He looked at me the way men crave women. However, I concealed my unclear feelings because I did not want to ruin the current circumstances. Unfortunately, all of my suspicions were true.
What makes person a hero? Is it fighting for your country in war, rescuing a “damsel in distress,” or being the one to discover cancer? All of that is heroic, but being a hero can mean many things and be the simplest things. To me, it is being brave and strong when all seems doomed. It is sacrificing things for the better of someone else. It is the smallest act of kindness that was not expected. My mother, Susan Marie McCartney, is my hero.

My father was always there for me, whether I wanted him to be or not. Most of the time, as an adolescent trying to claim my independence, I saw this as a problem. Looking back I now realize it was a problem every child needs, having a loving father. As hard as I tried to fight it, my dad instilled in me the good values and work ethic to be an honest and responsible member of society. He taught me how to be a good husband. He taught me how to be a good father. He taught me how to be a man. It has been 18 years since my father’s death, and I am still learning from the memories I have of him.
The denotation of the word hero is "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities". To some, that person may be George Washington, Batman, or even Peter Griffin. My hero, though, is my grandfather, D.S. Patel. My grandfather, from my mother's side of the family, is a wise, nice, caring sixty-year old man. Vocationally, he works as a civil engineer for the state of Indiana. In 1859 Henry Ward Beecher said, "the mother’s heart is the child’s schoolroom." I believe that statement because of experiences I’ve had with my own mother. I have learned more about life from her than from my 15 years of schooling. Over the last 20 years my mother has taught me many valuable lessons just by being a living example of compassion, thoughtfulness, and generosity. She is an angel that has protected and carried me throughout life.
There are times when you don’t know what to do or times when you might feel like you have no help in this world, but there is always that one person who never fails to give you the best advice in life, and that is your father. I have so much respect for any father out there that works hard, and always supports his family no matter what his imperfections might be. My father has got to be the best one in my opinion. He has been the biggest inspiration in my life because he taught me so much stuff in this life that I can’t find a way to pay him. He has been a very humble person and has never seen himself better than anyone else because he believes he is equal to any other father. In my opinion he is the best even though he says he isn’t. My father had imperfections just like any other human being in this world, yet he still taught me how to be a great person in this world by teaching me good morals. “Never Give Up, and believe in God and you will accomplish what you want in life” are words my father always tells me to remember.
Whenever I think about my mom, my dad also comes to my mind as well. Being raised by both parents showed me how much my parents worked as a team. Yes, there were times I felt closer to my mom than my dad dealing with some issues but I think it’s because I am a girl. What girl wants to talk to her dad about girly issues? My mom was my world, but my dad was my super hero. He showed me how a lady should be treated by a man, and taught me how to wrestle, climb trees, and treat others kindly. Since my parents were together there were two incomes to provide for my sister and me. I never saw my mom feeling lonely or my dad stress from his job. Even though my dad worked full time, it did not seem to affect my relationship with him because my mom was there when he was not. I believe if my mom did not have my dad she would not be able to support my sister and I alone or even should us she really cared. It takes both parents to teach their kids the traits of life. A hero can be defined in many different ways. Most people have different role models they call their hero. Some heroes to people may be a famous athlete, singer, or an actor but my hero is different than others. My mother is my hero for many different reasons a hero would be described as.
