My assignment today is to write about math and technology. First I’ll talk about my early experiences with math, and the part it played in my education process. Then, I researched technology, what is and how it works. I interviewed my grandmother about the life she encountered as technology advanced through time. In this paper, I will explore math and technology in education, in our careers, in our homes, in religion and while traveling. As a child, I have always enjoyed the subject, mathematics. Now of course I didn’t always love math, but I eventually grew to love it through the fun experiences in grade school. I attended a math, technology and design elementary school, which incorporated those three aspects in every subject. “All countries now have an official policy document aimed at promoting the use of computer based technologies for school learning. In mathematics education, the policy message is that electronic policies can and ought to be used to enhance students mathematical learning. Technologies is essential in teaching and learning mathematics; it influences the mathematics that is taught and enhances student learning.” (NCTM, 2000) From a student’s point of view, I can truly stand with the position that technology does help enhance what a student has learned. Teachers who understand that technology has become a part of our culture are at an advantage, considering the teacher will be adjusting to the different learning styles of the students. From the time I was in the fourth grade, all of my math teachers utilized promethean boards instead of the white boards to teach.
