LM3 Freedom of Religion
Americas freedom of religion is being questioned! People have many different religions and opinions, But some opinions are encouraged to stay quiet. Most people choose to stay quiet about It so they do not cause problems with the government or people who are uncomfortable with religion and worship. While many people believe it’s okay to have freedom of religion others feel that worshiping freely is wrong because it is not something they can control. Freedom of religion should be allowed in the united states.People have fought and even died so others can have freedom and yet Americans sit by and choose not to take it. This is the kind of thanks given to the people who worked so hard to give the rights we have today.

People can no longer speak freely about the God we serve or gods. We look at “Is Religious Freedom At The Tipping Point?” and see that in this article by Matthew Franck shows points that Religious Freedom has come under pressure. “We can not give the state power over the conscience of men and women, because we do not ourselves have any right to come between God and our fellow citizens.” Says Matthew Franck himself. However the supreme court has found many ways to change the documents and rules so everyone is happy even if that means pushing the truth every now and then. The Government cares about the shared moral happiness of the people more than the religious morals of Christians. When all the government is on the same page the sooner it may begin to recover a healthy nation of religious freedom and have fewer problems. America need religious freedom and the state feels like by giving that to America it is taking away some of the power they have over America. If this is looked at from a social point of view it can refer all this to a quote from the article “The ACLU And Freedom Of Religion” which states “Children are free to pray in public schools either as individuals or in groups.” Because it protects the freedom of praying in schools and in any public places. Religious freedom is a choice us as americans should have. This article by Jordan Weissmann points out facts from different religions and beliefs. Religious freedom allows everyone to express and act on what they believe in. Around the world however laws are being put in motion about the way people in different countries can worship. Different people and the people of the governments make that choice so Americans don 't have the freedom they should get, and they let them do it, The government takes the rights and do with them what they want so Americans don 't have to deal with the problems that come along with
Citizens of America can choose their religion, they can also choose what they want to say, through freedom of speech. These rights can sometimes be disrespected by others who do not have the same beliefs or opinions. For example, if a company does not want to provide service to someone based on a different belief
There are not many countries around the earth that not only give the people the right to any religion, but also the right to express themselves however they like. Especially allowing the people to say, write, think, and argue whatever they please, even about the government. Most governments forbid the bashing of the government or heads of government by the people. In several countries it is penalized by death. Again, to have a choice of what we say and write is what makes us American. Some governments put to death to those that actually express an opinion. So this is what it means to be an American. To have the freedom to speak what we 're thinking, to say what 's on our mind. To express our feelings and ideas and opinions without fear of punishment. The worst we could ever fear as an American who speaks their mind, is ridicule from peers. This is what it means to be an American; to have the privilege and right granted to us to speak freely. To be able to have our own opinions and speak our mind is one of the huge keys to opening the door to being an
The First Amendment to our Constitution states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" (The Bill of Rights: A Transcription).
An American’s right to religious worship is valued tremendously, thus making the first Amendment ve...
Freedom is something that is not taken lightly in our country. With so many people in America, and so many different religions and views, there will never be a way to make every single person happy. People have the right to believe what they choose, say what they want to say, and do what they want to do. They have the right to worship and take part in ceremonies they choose. It is not for the government to tell them how to live their life. There may be restrictions on certain things but they do not require you to believe a specific way. America is a privileged nation and a free country and the people have every right to be thankful for all the freedoms we have been given.
America is constantly evolving and redefining itself. We have come to the point where we are less inclined to criticize individuals that are different from us and more inclined to embrace eachother’s eccentricities. Those who oppose a separation between church and state claim that because this country was founded on religious principles, our government should continue to base its laws on Christianity. An article entitled, “Standing up for Church-State Separation in Difficult Times,” states that, “Religious Right groups are crowing and insisting that they have some sort of mandated to make their repressive agenda the law of the land,” however, we no longer live in the 1700’s (13). Times are changing and America is no longer predominantly white, Christians. In order for America to remain the melting pot we are all so proud of, we must accommodate all beliefs. A separation between church and state is necessary if America wants to give all of its citizens their religious rights.
Separation of Church and state has been a topic seen by the Supreme Court over the past 150+ years. Our countries religious freedoms and how it’s interpreted have been debated by both sides with reasonable argument. The framers of our federal government had laid down a series of guidelines for a free and prosperous society. One of the most controversial clauses in the First Amendment of our Constitution where it states that no law will endorse a religion or prohibit the rights of the people to exercise their religious rights has been part of a national debate since the First Congress was in session.
No other independent enlightenment in the world allows individual independence to the United States of America. American courts, especially the Supreme Court, have improved a set of lawful policies that comprehensively shelter all types of the power of appearance. When it comes to appraising the level to which people take benefit of the occasion to convey believes, many members of culture can be accountable for misusing the boundary of the First Amendment through openly offending others through racism or obscenity (Karen O’Connor & Larry J. Sabato 2006). America is what it is because of the Bill of rights and the Constitution of the United States of America. The ratification of the Constitution warranted that religious dissimilarity would continue to develop in the United States. American has enhanced a different nature toward the power of word throughout history.

In American there is a freedom to believe in any religion that can be thought of. From Christianity to Confucianism to even vampirism, people can believe whatever they wish and the government cannot say anything about it. In other countries this is...
"Freedom of Religion: Lyng v. Northwest Indian Cemetery Protective Association" provided a great example dealing with the freedom of religion. The Indians had been living on that land for hundreds of years, yet were denied their attempts to declare the area as a sacred area to prevent building on the lands. In the end it was a bittersweet victory for the Indians because the G-O Road was ordered to remain uncompleted because of the environment and not because it was a sacred territory for Indians. I believe that the Indians should have won the case in the Supreme Court because they were protected by the First Amendment. The case shouldn't have lasted as long as it did.
A little boy lies on his deathbed because his parents refuse to take him to a medical doctor. Two men were fired and were refused unemployment benefits for smoking peyote, an illegal narcotic. One man looks to change part of a national recitation because two words of it offend him. A woman and her husband are trying to prosecute a man for a letter he sent to members of their church. These four situations may sound strange and unrelated, but all of them fall under the issue of religious freedom and the separation of church and state.
One year ago, the United States Supreme Court made two judgments in favor of marriage equality. This was once considered impossible, however, the United States has had a tremendous change of heart in supporting gay marriage. People even speculate that same-sex marriage will be legal in the whole U.S. within few years. Currently there are 17 states that have legalized same sex marriage, while in 33 states it remains banned. The majority of the states that still ban gay marriage have a very high Christian population. Many Christians believe that being homosexual conflicts the bible and refuse to accept it. In my opinion this illustrates why it is better to separate state from religion. We have also seen the church try to influence government decision in England, the archbishop of Canterbury recently stated "The concept of marriage as a normative place for procreation is lost. The idea of marriage as covenant ...
Take a look at the ridiculousness of the situation. America is taking away aspects of our country that contribute to our moral setup. A separation between church and state is not necessary.
Religion is doctrine centered on belief and worship of a higher being. The First Amendment guarantee of Religious Freedom means all people have the right to choose any religion they desire; similarly all people have the right choose no religion at all. Each person is guaranteed this right without resistance or opposition from the government. The Amendment assures that the citizens will enjoy freedom from religion – that is, freedom from imposition by the government of any certain religious beliefs or practices. Likewise, the Amendment also guarantees that citizens will enjoy freedom of religion – the ability of each individual citizen to choose a religion based solely on their own beliefs.
