Folk dance Music of Bulgaria
Bulgaria is a relatively small country but it contains a wide diversity of folk dance styles. I believe this is the main reason why Bulgarian dances are so popular among international folk dancers. Bulgaria is located in south-eastern Europe and surrounded by Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey. First, we will have a brief introduction of Bulgaria and its folklore regions, then will introduce some folk instruments and describe each folklore region one by one.
Bulgaria has a population of 7.4 million people and occupied around 42,800 square meter. Back to 1218, it was one of the largest country in Europe under Ivan Asen II which named the second Bulgarian Empire. However, the decline of the Empire result in the loss of independent of Bulgaria and became a state of the Ottoman Empire. By the help of the Soviet Union, it became independent again at 1908. Until 1989, it gave up communism and applied parliamentary democracy. Bulgaria folk music is a significant part of Bulgarian culture. There are six folklore regions – Dobrudja, Thrace, Pirin, Sofia Region- Shopluk, the Rhodopes and North Bulgaria- Moesia.
Folk Music
Folk music is used to celebrate holidays like Christmas, New Year’s Day, midsummer m, and the Feast of St. Lazarus. It is also a part of personal celebrations such as wedding. Songs sung by women at work parties such as sedenka, betrothal ceremonies are also folk music. Bulgarian folk music featured “asymmetrical” rhythms, which is the combination of quick and slow beats. Each basic folk dance type use a distinct combination of rhythmic units but it varies across regions.

Each of the region has its own history and characteristics, such as traditional costumes and musical rhythms. It became increasing popular in mainstream music as ensembles or bands bring the folk music to all over the world like Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir who were honored with a Grammy Award in 1990.

Flamenco (may refer to ‘Flamingo’ - bird or the ‘Flanders’ region) originated (much later than Kathak) in 18th century Southern Spain-Andalucía . It was mostly performed by the Andalucía society that comprised Gitano (Gypsies). However, unlike Kathak, Flamenco dancers were from diverse professional backgrounds and the dance was not necessarily confined to a small group of people. Unlike Kathak, Flamenco dance lacked prestige because the Gitanos were discriminated and prosecuted because of their ethnicity. Flamenco mostly dealt with themes of hope/struggle/will power/bonding/patriotism - a representation of the general life of the gypsies. The early form of Flamenco solely consisted of verbal communication of stories carrying the mentioned themes.
There are always changes in the world outside and within society, but the role of music serves as a constant mode of unification for their culture. Music is a voice that declares pride, determination, and the inheritance for the Garifuna. The artistic expression is a form of cultural continuity from the past to the present and although it has been reinvented, like in the case of Punta that has evolved into Punta Rock, it continues to maintain the essential characteristics of their culture with the inclusion and usage of the drums and Garifuna language. For Garifunas their music reacts to changes and adapts to the changing world but still preserves the fundamental elements of art. Stamps of Bulgaria are the stamps published in Bulgaria, a country in southeastern Europe. Bulgaria was a part of the Ottoman Empire till 1878 after which it acted as an autonomous unit until the proclamation of full independence in 1908. From 1879 Bulgaria began issuing stamps with Bulgarian Cyrillic. Some of the stamps also commemorated special occasions in Bulgarian history such as those issued in 1901 in commemoration of 25th anniversary of April Uprising against the Turks. From 1879 till 1908 Bulgaria issued nearly 100 different stamps.
All sorts of instruments, mostly percussion, are played by extremely talented artists. Certain attires are prepared for the dances that go with each song. The women would normally do most of the dancing. They would decorate themselves with beautiful linens and jewelry and attach thimbles and tambourines to their body. The men usually play the instruments.
Turkey or as it is officially known the Republic of Turkey, is a transcontinental country in Eurasia. Turkey was founded as a republic in 1923. There administration is a unitary system. Being a relatively new nation, they have much room grow. Along with that growth, there is a lot to learn from brother and sister nations.
During the course of this semester, the several musical styles that have been discussed and analyzed have displayed various similarities and differences. These differences in certain musical elements have accounted for the distinctiveness and uniqueness of each style of music. The culture behind these countries’ music adds even more to their individualism. Cultural aspects such as religion play a huge role in the music of each country as well. Styles of music in Africa might be more upbeat than certain styles in India, for example. Some cultures use music in religion, while others may not. Aspects such as dance are important factors in all three types of music. Despite the differences and similarities, however, without music, these cultures would perhaps not be as fascinating and unique as they are now.
The most interesting theme of the entire history of Russia is the period in which the formation of Russian statehood takes place. Surprisingly, the events preceding Russia’s formation are among the least studied pages of our history. Written sources telling of the times are very meager, they are mainly found in the presentation of Byzantine chroniclers, who described the events, at times, in biased and contradictory terms. Of course, Byzantines viewed the Slavs as primarily restless, warlike neighbors and they are not particularly interested in their culture, their way of life or their customs. Therefore, to study the history of ancient Russia and paganism uses mainly archaeological and ethnographic research. Some events have shed light archaeological finds but their interpretation the sometimes given rise too many opinions and viewpoints. In a small drop of solid knowledge of accounting there is the whole ocean of assumptions and guesswork. Thus, the early history and culture of Eastern Slavs is no less enigmatic and mysterious, than the story of Atlantis. That is why I was attracted by the theme of “Myths of the ancient Slavs”.

Flamenco originated in Andalusia, Spain by gypsies from India and the Middle East. As of when Flamenco started, there have no references of it until the 18 century. But it seems to have been a part of gypsy culture long before. The other dances that had influenced flamenco span from the 5th century to the 15th. It is created from the mix of cante Gitano with Andalusian folk music.

Azerbaijan is a small eastern European country. It measures about the size of Maine. The cities are modest. They’ve grown into modern producers of commerce and international business. The capitol of Azerbaijan is Baku. It is located on the far eastern part of the country. Azerbaijan has a population of nine million people.
