In society today, we face many different and odd tasks that we find ourselves asking , “is this morally right.” This question, is to some people, one of the most important questions we can answer. However, what are morals? Morals are a set of principles that an individual lives and rules their life off of. Morals are the way you live. Its what decides whether something is good or bad in your life. Men and women alike all face moral problems in the day. Some of which are controversial. The controversy behind morals all reflect around that individual and their morals. If animals were to get equal rights as humans, the food supply and goods of the animals would significantly drop. In a Utilitarian viewpoint, the main goal is happiness. We, as humans, are not creating any happiness by destroying these animals. However, if the world did follow Utilitarianism, then everything would have the same moral worth. Which means we would have to treat these animals with the same way we treat humans. Should animals be respected, yes, but should they be treated as equals? If they were our equals the world would change as we know it. Although we would be following utilitarianism, our diets and build would change. Treating animals with respect is morally right. However, using them in science and killing them is morally wrong. “ If an animal is injured or diseased, than there are very strong grounds for suspecting that it is suffering.” (Dawkins 26) But is it morally wrong if the animal that dies goes to finding the cure to cancer. Taking any things life is not respectable, which is understandable. But, in the view of a religious standpoint, animals were put here for our benefit. Humans are not used to find cures for animals because we value the human life more so than animals. Even in the case of religion, animals do have respect but are under us humans.
