In California State University, Northridge, the Applied Fitness Lab acted as an apparatus to assist students and clients in addressing and understanding how physical activity can alter health risks, such as physical inactivity and obesity. In the modern working environment, many professions require employees to work behind desks for many hours. Therefore, it reduces the amount of physical activity that a person will receive during their life causing an increase in physical inactivity. A person is classified as physically inactive when they do not meet the recommended level of normal physical activity. Current research suggests that physical inactivity is inversely correlated to with the risk obesity (Pradinuk, Chanoine, Goldman, 2011). Cardiorespiratory warm up exercises were greatly focused on so that there will be an increase of blood flow to initiate her voluntary skeletal muscles for work. According to ACSM, “CFR is related to the ability to perform large muscle, dynamic, moderate – to – high intensity exercise for prolonged periods of time and reflects the functional capabilities of the heart, blood vessels, lungs, and relevant muscles…”(p. 318). There will be an increase in heart rate and stroke volume, which cause cardiac output to increase linearly with an increase in exercise intensity, therefore, increasing the blood flow to working muscles. Push, pull, hinge, squat, groundwork, and carry exercises were implemented to help her reinforce her shoulder joint function, her coordination, balance, and overall muscular endurance of her body. Exercises that involves large muscle recruitment were enforced because large muscle recruitment will cause her to burn more calories due to increase in intensity which will cause greater energy
