Our future society one day may include transhumanism and or a zombie epidemic; if this happens, an advance in science might be the reason. When individuals know an in depth knowledge between transhumanism and the zombie genre, that’s when deep understanding will become apparent. Transhumanism and the zombie genre both have science in common, but how science is viewed is not always the same. In many zombie movies, science is portrayed as negative as it is the main issue and is caused by a science in some way where as transhumanism has a positive viewpoint on scientific discovery. In regards to the zombie genre and transhumanism, they both have viewpoints on mortality, but they have a difference belief and opinion about them. Transhumanism is the belief that “radical alternations to human nature are possible and a good thing” (Engler). These advances in science allow for constant improvement and discovery. Examples might be living forever through uploading the brain to a computer, choosing to amputate a limp because a bionic limb allows for increase speed etc. Transhumanism’s view on science is positive where a lot of the zombie genre has a negative view, these differences allow for speculation of the future. The zombie genre has a pretty common belief that science caused the zombies. This mistake in science is seen in Matheson’s I Am Legend was a virus that caused the zombie epidemic. They believe their zombie interpretation is more relatable than Haraway’s cyborg interpretation. The authors are trying to make their interpretation more valid by invalidating another interpretation. This makes the piece hard to agree with, for an interpretation is relative to each person, and tearing apart another interpretation is an unproductive way to persuade readers to agree with you and your ideas. Another reason the article is difficult to agree with, is the fact that it is very difficult to understand. With the piece being as persuasive as it is, the authors did not take the time to ensure the writing would be easy to understand for all.
