There are so many things that we can look at that can help to see if it is better to ban gay marriage or to allow it. It is giving all people the right to marry whomever they chose to, and it shows them that just because they are a little different does not mean that they do not belong in the world. Now there are some bad aspects to allowing gay marriage, but there are some bad aspects to almost everything in the world.

Andrew Sullivan’s essay, “Let Gays Marry,” is about how gays and lesbians have long been alienated from their basic rights as American citizens. He argues that allowing gays to marry will not drastically change the description of marriage as we know it, but will simply entitle same sex partners to devote themselves to each other, and declare their love for each other. The Supreme Court made an influential ruling that “’a state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws.’”(25) Sullivan argues that that is just what America has been doing by not legally recognizing domestic partners of the same sex. He claims that “at some point in our lives, some of us are lucky enough to meet the person we truly love,” (25) gays included. Sullivan recognizes that many religious organizations are against homosexuality, but this country has a separation of church and state that makes that argument arbitrary in terms of legality.
Opposite sex marriages spouses are gay, but cover it with legal marriage. Once they find out marriage is authorized, they could subdivision off from their husband and wife to get the pleasure they really want. The threats to marriage as a body will harm civilization especially children. We’re not just talking about one marriage. Same sex couples look at being denied the right to legally marry each other as their freedom of speech being taken away, but in actuality they are only expressing their love. Legalizing gay marriage will not damage society. If same sex marriage were legal everywhere in the United States, society will still function normally and no family values will be lost. If gay marriage is legal in seventeen, why must the other thirty three states continue to ban same sex marriage? How can we all be equal if we are being denied certain rights because of who we love?
It is too widespread in our country and around the world. Even though I am against homosexuality and same-sex marriage I will still love that person even if I do not support their lifestyle. I do not expect people to agree with what I say, but I believe that this is the wrong path and something can be done to turn everything around. I think homosexuality is a mental issue and that if the person got the right help they could be ‘cured’ of this. But my belief is that all of this is a big mess that is far from being resolved.
The history of our country is that of expanding civil rights. This fundamental civil right should be afforded to all loving and committed adult couples throughout our country not just opposite-sex couples. Reticence to understand homosexuality causes many straights to not be comfortable with homosexuality and believe same-sex marriage is unnatural. Furthermore, many straights cite religious reasons as just cause for not legalizing same-sex marriages. Same-sex marriages should be legalized in the United States.
