The average American thinks that homosexuals deserve all the rights that heterosexuals, but gay marriage is dead wrong. Many people also believe that homosexuality is about nothing but sex. If homosexuality was all about sex, why would they fight so hard to be able to marry? The reality is that homosexuality is much more about love and affection than it is about sex. Noboody can come up with a good reason to deny gays the right to marry.
Marriage is a union of love, not a union of genders. Same-sex couples should be allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment in the same way as heterosexual couples. It should be legal because the gay community should have the same rights as everyone else does. Many argue that same-sex couples should have the ability as to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that banning gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. People opposing gay marriage say, “We must protect traditional marriage and the traditional family.” Matthew McTighe of the Mainers United for Marriage debates responds by saying, “Prote... ... middle of paper ... ...g and legalizing gay marriage.
A large majority of people in the United States will say that they are in favor of equal rights for homosexuals. They will all agree that homosexuals should have the same rights in housing, jobs, public accommodations, and should have equal access to government benefits, equal protection of the law, and other rights granted to US citizens. However, when the topic of marriage arises, all the talk of equality ceases. Over fifty percent of all people in the United States oppose homosexual marriage, despite the fact that most are otherwise supportive of homosexual rights. This means that many of the same people who are even passionately in favor of homosexual rights oppose homosexuals on this one issue.
Or maybe they were a couple of letters of the same sex engaging in a homosexual relationship. A “W” is two “V” s in a civil union, but the world is not ready to flip that on its head and let them go for the big “M” (Kintz). Not only does some humans have a problem with individuals being gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people also has an issue with same sex marriage. Love and marriage shouldn 't have a gender to it, because love just happens. People shouldn 't sacrifice their happiness in marrying someone who doesn 't make them happy just to be accepted and not be judged.
Also, the ramifications of the legalization of gay marriage, both for gays and society, will be examined. Finally, I will refute arguments against same-sex marriage. Society benefits by having fewer "closet gays." "Closet gays" are homosexuals who try to abide by society's standards, and marry a partner of the opposite sex (Harbinger 683). However, due to the different sexual orientations of the two partners, problems often occur, causing emotional harm to"closet gays," their partners, and their children (Harbinger 683).
Legalizing gay marriage has been a controversial topic in the past few years. In my opinion, gay people should be allowed to get married because it is a civil right. It shouldn 't matter what gender they prefer because they 're still regular people. Making gay marriage illegal, is the same as taking away someone 's freedom and civil rights. That is unethical and completely awful.
Which is a false conclusion based on a bias premise. The only value of marriage that there should be is the unconditional and in this case untraditional love between two people. Not only, do people look down on gay marriage because it is untraditional but because it is different. Furthermore, when “Celebrities are breaking up, making up, and hav... ... middle of paper ... ... that. However all of the points may be arguable it still doesn’t change that fact that gay people are humans that love like any other person in this world and should not be excluded from marrying the person that they love.
Some may argue in the bible it states it is wrong to be involved in a gay marriage. If two people love each other why can they not get married? There are so many arguments that can be brought up to justify marriage and for couples to receive benefits like any other couple. In this society understand why some people like myself I feel like people have the right to be with who they want to be with and just because you don’t believe in it doesn’t make it bad. They would also be unsure if their relationship was then valid, stated by this representative of the gay community "(they) want the right to legally marry [and] honor their relationship in the greatest way our society has to offer..." (ProCon 1) They also then get to reach a milestone in their lives that everyone dreams of, no matter the sexual orientation. Allowing gay marriage can also help bring the divorce rates down in places where it is legal. Massachusetts’s divorce rate declined 21% between 2003 and 2008, making it have the lowest divorce rate in 2008. It was the first state in the united states to legalize gay marriage, doing so in 2003. Alaska, on the other hand, had a 17.2% increase in its divorce rate after changing its state constitution to forbid gay marriage in 1998.
Gay marriage is a legitimate relationship and gay people should just ignore what people have to say about them and keep loving and caring for each other unconditionally. Imagine living in a world where you are not accepted, now imagine how someone that is gay feels. These people have to go and create their own personal community to be accepted as if they are doing something wrong. At least half of Americans today believe that gay men and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry.
