To accomplish this goal, most of the lessons involve the students offering their reflective view on a major issue that occurred in each lesson through exit tickets, fishbowl discussions, structured academic controversies and written/photo analysis activities. The unit also spends time preparing students for the Regents examination by having students complete Document-Based Questions (DBQ’s) that include speeches, photographs, and cartoons. Students will be assigned a research paper where they will research a topic that will be covered in the unit further. Students will also take a quiz on the sixth day of the unit which will consist of multiple choice questions that used on previous Regents examinations. The final unit assessment consists of similarly styled multiple choice questions based off of old Regents and a thematic essay. This unit aligns with New York State (NYSED), Common Core (C3), and certain National Committee on the Social Studies (NCSS)
