December Book Review – Luxy Ruiz Title: Wonder Author: R.J. Palacio Genre: Children's Literature & Realistic Fiction Wonder is about a young 10-year-old boy, named August Pullman, with facial birth defects. Auggie shares his thoughts with us on how he feels about this situation. The main characters of this story are Auggie, Via (his sister), Julian, Jack Will, and Summer. The main characters of this story helped Auggie become less self-conscious of himself and make him feel normal. The main characters run into many problems. For example, Auggie gets judged by many of the kids at school, especially by Julian. Another example would be when Auggie and Jack get into a fight over something Jack had said. The main characters didn't have many adventures. However, they did come across very difficult tasks of life. My favorite character would have to be August Pullman. I have felt the way Via felt and tried not to bother my parents while they were going through a rough time. A book I have read before that I can connect to Summer too is Rose from Out Of My Mind. I think this because Summer is a supportive friend to Auggie and in Out Of My Mind so was Rose to Melody. A text-to-world connection I made was to connect Via from wonder to Jonathan from Stranger Things. This because Via is Aggie's older sister and is very protective of him.
