Many woman made a huge impact in the civil rights movement in 1954-1968. These strong woman stood up for what they believed in no matter the circumstances. Three of the many important woman of the movement are Rosa parks, Dorothy Height, and Yuri Kochiyama. The civil rights movement was a movement full of power to give Blacks the same access to privileges and rights. The movement became larger in the 1950s and 1960s. African Americans, plus whites, led the movement at local and national areas. All together, they followed through with their goals with nonviolent protests. In the 1960s, she was at head of the civil rights movement. She worked very close with the major leaders of the movement, for example King, Roy Wilkins, Philip Randolph, and Whitney Young. She then became involved in almost all of the popular civil and human rights events at the time. In 1957, She became the president of The National Council of Negro Woman. Throughout the movement, she gave inspiring speeches to the people. She was also one of the organizers for MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The reason she is so important is for the fact that she was so involved. Since she was so involved, she made a big impact on the civil rights movement and the people, especially woman. They have persuaded and influenced many people with their words and actions. They are important for the that they made a huge change in segregation and the civil rights movement.
