I'm so happy we have a school uniform! Says no one ever. In my language arts class we are asked to write an argumentative essay over something of our choice. I chose the argument over whether or not students should have school uniforms. The argument is some people believe students should have school uniforms or a dress code. Im arguing against that. I think that we should not have a dress code, because it takes away students individuality, and it does not stop bullying what so ever, Also it is harder on parents with money to buy school clothing plus regular clothing for outside of schools . One of my reasons that I think that schools should no longer have school uniforms is because it takes away student individuality. I think this because a lot of children express themselves in their appearance. Some students let other students and adults know what their favorite color is, maybe by wearing purple if they're favorite color is purple, or even blue or any other color. Some students let people see what kind of music or television shows they watch or listen too but their clothing. Some students even express their sense of humor in their clothing. This is one of the reasons I think students …show more content…
Some people may say that making everyone wear the same thing prevents them from making fun of other students. I think this is very false. I think this is false because no matter what you do, people will always find a way to try and drag you down. They will find something other than your clothes to make fun of you for. Bullying is not always about your clothes. They could bully you by how you look, where you live, your hair, your legs, how fat you are, how skinny you are, if you're not popular. People will find any way to bully you and it doesn't matter if their in the same clothes or not. That's why i think students shouldn't have a dress code
Students should be allowed to wear what they want to school and if bullying occurs then the bully should be punished. Bullying is something that is not going to stop no matter what schools do to try and prevent it. The only way to lower the amount of bullying in schools is to teach children about the consequences of their actions at an early
Students should not be enforced to wear school uniforms at public schools. Some people may believe they make a child behavior better, but that is false. Children are not better behaved. The kind of clothes students wear does not make students a better or different person.
I think that children and teens should not have to wear school uniforms. It deprives them of their freedom of speech. Uniforms are believed to be degrading and appalling to most. Everything would be dull and boring if everyone looked the same and wore the same stuff. Some kids become stressed out and could get depressed because they cannot choose what they can wear, in our own country? The land of the free and the home of the brave and we can’t even choose what we wear? For the most part students would become angry and violent, and worst case scenario, suicide.
Schools all over the United States argue and debate over if school uniforms should be required or not. Most schools that do require these school uniforms don’t have very happy students. Some people say making students wear these uniforms will stop a lot of problems. Kids won’t get bullied as much and won’t be judged on the clothing they like to wear. Other people say this wont change anything. Requiring students to wear uniforms isn’t going to stop bullying. Bullies will be bullies, if they can’t make fun of other childrens clothes anymore, they’ll move onto other things to judge them for.
There you are standing in your school uniform, waiting for your bus. You feel anxious because the uniform doesn’t fit like it’s supposed to. The shirt (even when it’s tucked in,) is way too loose on you making it seem like you were skinny as a tree but, you weren’t. The only thing that was tight were your pants/skirt, it was so tight that you could barely move at all. Hasn’t everyone felt this way numerous amounts of time when wearing school uniforms? The fabric sometimes irritating your skin taking your attention off of school work. Sometimes, when you wear school uniforms don’t you feel nervous that someone is going to say something mean about your uniform? Most, people are bullied because of school uniforms and how they fit on them. Schools shouldn’t have school uniforms because they make you feel self-conscious and it increases the causes of bullying.
Students that are in public schools whom do not require the use of uniforms wear what they please while looking up to fashion icons; such as Michael Jordan, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, P. Diddy etc. Everyday either before or after school many students utilize electronics like TV, computers etc. Students then may feel like they need to idolize their fashion icons and the best way to become them is to dress similar in any way affordable. However, they’re plenty others that are not as interested or worried about who’s the next fashion mogul. Therefore leaving these individuals vulnerable to being bullied. With that said public schools are known to be divided into diverse segregated congregations. For instance normally there are your math geeks, cheerleaders, Football jocks, the band, and gang affiliated. However within these groups they’re considered popular with similarities in judgment ...
In conclusion, no matter where people stand on the issue of whether schools should have a dress code or require uniforms in schools, there are no studies that definitively prove one way is better than the other. On one hand , school uniforms have been shown to decrease school violence, and make school environment safer and aid in the academic process. In contrast, a school dress code has also been shown to have no significant impact on attendance or behavior and has not been proven to be anymore effective than not having one. No matter what, uniforms will always be a societal issue that will always be up for debate on their effectiveness.
One of the greatest controversies that is spreading throughout high schools in the United States is parents and their children against the enforcement of their school’s uniform policy. More schools have been adopting uniform policies within the past decade. Rules contained in the policy that are implemented range from wearing certain types of tops (shirts) in specified colors to students being required to tuck in their shirts. In the past, uniforms were exclusively for students who attended private schools because they were “well-off”, but now uniforms are being seen more frequently in public schools on students of all economic levels. Having gone through a school system that considered adopting a uniform policy, I would have to press against the issue of mandated uniforms, because it is simply un-American and unjust.
If kids don’t want to wear uniforms then they shouldn’t have to. Kids don’t want to be the same as everyone else. If someone makes kids wear uniforms, then they’re going to start acting out because they can’t be themselves around teachers and peers. They need to express themselves. They have their own personality, and need to be who they are or want to be. The school board has a lot of control over kids but they shouldn’t have control over what they wear. If kids wear uniforms, then they’re not going to be able to deal with anyone different from them. Some kids even find them uncomfortable, and others might even be allergic to the material. They probably wouldn’t even want to come to school if they’re being forced to do something they don’t want to do in the first place. Letting kids pick out their own clothes gives them a decision to make, to be given a choice that’s completely up to them and having that taken away, they’d have close to nothing, they’d be almost completely controlled by the school, and these people aren’t even their family. Students might even feel self conscious about themselves. It might set a lot of kids over the edge and behavioral problems would begin to kick in, and no matter what everyone dresses like, people are always going to find ways to judge others, whether it’s hair color, weight, height, etc. No matter what, there are still going to be cliques. The uniforms are not changing anything besides the students’ opinions about the school and their mood. It can stress the kids, and if some get stressed too much, they can have a breakdown, it can ...

Read on Additionally, it’s unfair to assume that students can’t make friends with people who are dressed differently than they are. Students are already capable of crossing boundaries without required identical clothing, and schools can encourage this with leadership activities and group discussions. So in conclusion I do not think students should have to wear school uniforms, but I digress we all disagree on something right?
Having a mandated uniform policy in place assists in easing the burden of school clothing costs by allowing parents to shop for more reasonable prices, because the clothes will look the same regardless of the brand. School bullying can be reduced by not easily being able to determine the more expensive garments versus the less expensive, eliminating the ease with which individuals profile based on income status. Students who regularly bully other students based on clothing choices will be eliminated, improving student behavior. This policy also allows students to concentrate more on their studies than on the next new clothing fad, resulting in more academic progress. Reducing distractions stemming from student clothing choices enables students to concentrate on what they are in school doing, which is learning.
School uniforms are increasingly popular across the nation. In fact, it becomes a huge controversial argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their schools. However, school uniforms are not meant to be a negative thing; in fact, it could be positive in many ways by: eliminating cliques, saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying from students less fortunate. Meanwhile, on the other side of the argument, people believe that school uniforms will violate students’ freedom of expression, create a financial burden on families, and uniforms will not alleviate problems. However, with a solution that would benefit both parties, the public school systems in Oklahoma City district would benefit greatly
An article in the Wall Street Journal reports that students are still being ridiculed for wearing the wrong clothes, and in fact, fashion-related bullying appears to be on the rise, according to Dorothy Espelage, a psychology professor at the University of Illinois. This evidence contradicts the opposing team's argument. Additionally, the opposing team claimed that they have never seen bullying based on brands in our school, but this assertion is easily refuted since we wear school uniforms at SIS. Therefore, it is evident that bullying based on clothing, including brands and inexpensive clothing, is still prevalent and increasing in frequency. As bullying is detrimental to a student's well-being, it is crucial to prevent it and promote healthy development by implementing school uniforms globally, particularly in Hong Kong.
There is an unending discussion in schools across the country about school uniforms and whether or not they make for a better experience in school for the students or just the teachers. Those who are pro-uniforms insist that uniforms will allow families to save money and time on clothing. This is so because these days children often get ready by themselves, because their parents are usually off to work before they wake up for school (Linder-Altman). Uniforms give the parents of these children confidence that their child is going to school looking halfway decent. There are also claims that uniforms will decrease the amount of bullying in school because all of the students will look alike. On the other hand, those protesting uniforms believe although everyone is pretty much dressed the same, cliques will still form and bullying will still exist (Dress code and Uniforms). I wore uniforms throughout primary school and I didn’t like them because I always felt uncomfortable in them. In hindsight, it could have been because I felt my personality was bottled up every time I put on my school uniform. There are claims that uniforms are not inclusive and won’t allow children to accept each other because of their differences (Linder-Altman). When everyone in the school is dressed alike, students may feel as if they aren’t able to express his/herself. Those unfamiliar with this topic may be interested to know the
