Why School Should Start Later

I feel that the school start the school day later so that kids can get a couple extra hours of sleep before going to learn.
Kids need to get more sleep because it affects their health “Both the CDC and the pediatricians’ group cited significant risks that come with lack of sleep, including higher rates of obesity and depression and motor-vehicle accidents among teens as well as an overall lower quality of life.” (Emily Richmond).
In more than 40 states schools start before 8:30, so if a student does not go to bed very early they will very tired and have a hard time getting to school, kids need at least 8 and a half to 9 and half hours of sleep a night. About a hundred years ago jobs and schools started at 9am, but in the 1970s and 1980s schools moved back to earlier hours because it saved money with the bus schedules. Most kids have to get up at 5 or 6 just to catch the bus, most buses come at 5:30 to 6, at those times it is dark outside and a child is forced to stand in the dark and wait for their bus, this can be dangerous and scary for the child someone could kidnap them. Students being released in the afternoon also is a safety hazard, in the afternoon with not very much sleep teenagers are tired and that makes it harder to drive home, sleep deprivation also increases substance abuse and risk taking. “ Medical professionals, middle and high school teachers, and other student advocates have long argued that school start times are simply too early. Around 80% of schools start before 8am., which means many students windup sleep-deprived.”
