Unemployed Americans work every day to try and find themselves a job, but this near impossible job search has become even harder due to the millions of illegal immigrants who have stolen jobs from true Americans. Consuming a massive percentage of the total income from American jobs, illegal immigrants are beginning to dominate the American economy in an unpleasant way. In the America, it is illegal for anyone to work and receive pay without paying taxes on their income but, these illegal immigrants work under the radar allowing them to become excluded from the income tax laws. The money that immigrants earn from working in America makes up 14.7% of the the total economic income of the American population. The average American pays over $16,000 in income and payroll taxes per year!(‘Why Illegal Immigration Is Bad For America.’). For many hardworking Americans this is a very large portion of their annual pay, but at least the taxes are being used to better improve the country for American citizens right? Wrong! The immigration debate has been in the news a great deal recently. Most of the attention has been focused on the illegal immigrants entering our country from Mexico, mostly Hispanics and Latinos. Uncontrolled immigration is harmful to the United States. It harms the American worker and it harms the American economy. The open borders are a threat to national security because terrorists, smugglers, and drug dealers can also freely cross the border. These key facts cannot be ignored and outweigh the claims that race and ethnicity are part of the debate. Immigration should be restricted and a better I.D. system would help stabilize the immigration problem.
It is said that immigrants come to this country for a better life, then that is what they should try to do for themselves. In most cases they just end up working low-paying, dead end jobs. If you come to america for a better life then you should put forth the effort to better yourself rather than just barely scraping by. Some argue that immigrants do the jobs that most Americans would not want to do themselves, at a much lower pay rate. Often illegals are paid under the minimum wage because employers do not have to register them as employees. Many illegals are often seen working in the construction business, gardening, roofing, concrete work, house cleaning, etc. This is because most of those are hard work or thought of as blue collar work that often does not pay enough to support a family. The underlying problem is the lack of assimilation to the American ways of life and the acceptance of existing rules and laws. Chomsky so on to say, “it indeed seems to be the case that immigrants and low-skilled citizens are competing for the same jobs”(11).
