My major, Political Science, is esteemed at UC Santa Barbara for the amazing quantitative and qualitative research as well as normative theory. My degree will have a concentration of American Politics. This concentration examines a wide variation of aspects of political life including; political institutions, public policy, racial and ethnic politics, gender and politics, electoral behavior, political parties, environmental politics, political economy of the United States, Public opinion and political behavior, and media and political education. I feel that my work in this major has made me a more proficient writer, reader and critical thinker. History of Public Policy majors are expected to have a strong competence in a foreign language, statistics, computer operations, research, and writing. This major gives me a world wide scope of current and historical issues. With this knowledge I hope to carve a place in history for the future. Overall, a degree in Political Science and History of Public Policy will create a very well rounded education that I can apply to any career path in the future. The strong alumni network and research opportunities at UC Santa Barbara will create endless connections to the Political Science and History Public Policy communities. I have high hopes of being selected to write a Political Science honors thesis. This is a three quarter class in which I would work directly with a professor to explore a research topic of my choosing. This would give me the ability to delve deeper into my studies and hone my research and writing skills. I have aspirations of attending law school following my graduation at UC Santa Barbara. My double major will provide me a strong base knowledge of the material that I will utilize in law school. I hope to one day practice law and work for the needs of the disabled
