I like to think of myself as a sponge. While sponges absorb water and return it back when they are squeezed, I am constantly absorbing information and returning it back by teaching others or myself. I enjoy learning new things that I can apply to my life and my determination to do better fuels me. In addition, my willingness to learn makes me explore new concepts and areas outside of school so that I learn while in a classroom and also on my own. Learning is so enjoyable because it gives me a better understanding of the people around me and the world around me. Different subjects make me use different areas of the brain; for example, learning Spanish fuels my creativity because it is a more flexible course compared to math. The attention that I pay to details helps me to notice things about my surroundings and thus learn more about them. Additionally, my meticulosity has helped me in problem solving because I am able to look at different situations from different perspectives. Staying organized is necessary to avoid missing deadlines. Moreover, perseverance is the key to achieving my goals. I persevere because if I start something, I like to finish it. Leaving a project incomplete is not only frustrating, but a wasted effort. I stay true to myself and do not allow others to influence me negatively.
Perseverance motivates me to have courage to dare to do things that are outside my comfort zone. For instance, at first I struggled with physics because of how highly conceptual it was, but I persevered throughout the year and even when it became difficult and confusing, I made sure to stay on top of myself and to seek help. By joining the Honors College, I hope to form meaningful relationships with faculty members and to meet new people who I can learn from and look up to as role models.
