Why I feel called to teach?
As a little girl, I remember being in my room and playing “teacher” with my best friend and having our stuffed animals be our students. From a very young age I knew that I wanted to teach, however, as I got older I changed my mind multiple times because I was a child of a teacher which allowed to see behind the scenes and all of the struggles a teacher must deal with, such as salary or dealing with parents, for example. These issues made me question my original decision to become a teacher. I started thinking of what I could do that involved music because I love to sing, so I thought about musical theater and becoming a performer. Some examples of social reconstructionism would be encouraging students to “make the world a better place to live (Kauchak&Eggen, 2017, p. 166),” while discussing biology, as well as having elaborate discussions between students to see other opinions and go deeper in the understanding of the content. There are many other ways to involve students and keep their attention in the class room. One way is by asking questions and calling on them by name during the lesson to interact further with your students. Another thing that I intend to use in my future class room is solfege, which uses hand signals to demonstrate different notes. This will help my students learn in different ways because studies show that brains relay movements by “nerve impulses to either the muscles or the larynx (Jensen,1998, p.84-85).” By using solfege, my students will relate the sound of a note with the specific hand …show more content…

Being able to look at your past and grow from your experiences is very imperative to do throughout your life even as a teacher. To improve on yourself as a teacher there are many things that you can do, such as self-evaluations, having other teachers come and evaluate you, and have students do truthful evaluations. Having others evaluate you allows you to see things from another prospective and can help more in some cases.
To be a teacher there are many standards that you need to live up to and the most vital standard is to behave like a professional. In order to do this, teachers need to be honest, responsible, organized, and have good moral judgement. Teachers are always looked at in the community because they are held to a different standard than normal people.
