In this essay I will be deliberating and evaluating the statement “notorious womaniser who allegedly abused his power to gain sexual favours from female pupils.” alongside the background of feminism and African philosophy and how these paradigms can be applied to solve the problem at hand. In the content of this essay I will firstly discuss feminism stating its principles and aims of achieving equality. Secondly, I will discuss the African philosophy and how it aims for a fair and just society with its principles of humanity. Feminism is equity oriented because it recognizes that men and women are different and identifies the inequalities that women are faced with and tries to encourage the involvement of women by encouraging fair and just opportunities between women and men instead of trying to make women equal to men, as it is impossible do so. Feminism is trying to make men and society embrace the differences between men and women and this means that feminism promotes the value of equity where systems of oppression against women are fixed rather than the difference between women and men (Hatching, 2007:78). Teachers must maintain ethical and professional behaviour, and never use their positions to abuse and take advantage of learners. Teachers must also take responsibility to keep learners safe and protected by reporting instances of abuse, bullying and harassment. A teacher must provide quality education, not show favouritism or discriminate against other learners and interact with learners
