Why I Chose College Essay

There are many reasons that a person decides to pursue higher education beyond their high school years. For me, deciding to pursue higher education l after I graduated high school was a big committment that I wasn't ready to make. Instead of immediately going off to college like many of my friends and classmates, I decided to go to work. After spending six tiring years in the work force doing manual labor, I decided that enough was enough and that I needed to do something to better myself as an employee and as a person. After starting new employment at a local medical device manufacturer, I knew that I had found my calling. I always had the ambition to help people, and be a part of something that could better someone elses quality of life. I worked for two years, tirelessly learning everyting I could about the products we made and every detail behind the processes involved in making them. Once I had reached my goal of learning those products and processes, and making it about as far as I could as a machine operator, I felt it was time to check in to how I could develop my career. At that point, I sat down with my manager and the engineering manager of my facility to see what the next step would be. They all told me that I had great …show more content…

I was very proud of myself for taking the initial step, and I had so many people behind me in my decision to do so. I enrolled in a local community college and decided that I should pursue Mechanical Engineering Technology. That was by far one of the best decisions I had ever made. Though working a full-time job, and taking on an almost full-time course load was tough, knowing that I could use my education to better myself and ultimately help people who would recieve our products was enough drive for me to percervere through. I took this opprotunity very seriously, and worked hard in my school work all the way through earning my Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
