during passing time; students will now have additional time to move around during the school day to gain the benefits of moderate exercise. Moderate exercise such as walking can lower mortality rates by 18 to 50 percent and prevent strokes, cancer, diabetes, and fractures (Simon). The potential health benefits from having longer passing times far outweigh the costs to implement this stage of the movement. Time for the longer passing times will be taken from each lunch time. Five minutes from the four lunch times will be given to the longer passing times. Every student can take advantage from the longer passing times in the form of moderate exercise benefits. These practices will be introduced by Mr. Chelf to ensure that teachers are successful in following through with them. Supplementary physical activity can be created during class time through workstations that require students to move around the classroom, outdoor labs, games, and utilizing the outdoor classroom. These different activities will allow students to gain the benefits from moderate exercise (Simon). This is because doing something, as little as walking or standing, is better than sitting around in class all day, which seems to be the norm at North High School. One teacher, Cindy Jones, went the extra mile to include learning and physical education in her classes. She teaches STEM subjects through the use of games, simple machines, and structures that allow the students to kinesthetically learn complex concepts. Jones even mentioned that students seem to learn and grasp the subjects better when the activities are hands-on
