Sports are the downgrade of society and should be ultimately removed. We would like to propose the removal of sports at our school. Sports distract people from school, cause serious injuries, and give kids false hope of college scholarships. If we don’t remove sports from our school it could cause our future generation to not be able to obtain a proper education and be successful in their future. If we don’t take sports out of our school, then there will be more problems with our kids health and their lives.
Kids get many injuries from sports. Some are more serious than others, like concussions. “Concussions symptoms include short term effects like nausea, dizziness, and trouble concentrating” ( Long term effects of a concussion include brain damage, memory loss, and depression. These symptoms could lower kids academic status, and miss school. Kids 13 years and younger have doubled with the amount of concussions, that are sports related. This is happening because of ball related sports which include, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and hockey. Not only can we eliminate stress, but we can also cut down on injuries from the sports that caused them.
It is very hard for kids who do sports to stay on top of sports and school. Kids who play more than

The chances for students to get a scholarship in sports are hockey 11%, baseball 8% football 5.5%, and basketball 3%. This means that the chances for a student to get a sports scholarship is very low and almost impossible. There are also a lot of exceptional students who are very good at the sport that the athlete has to compete with to get a scholarship. That means that you have to be exceptional to surpass others and get a scholarship. There will probably be a lot of arguments to why we shouldn’t stop sports, but we are prepared to challenge
Over the course of time, schools have invested all their finances on sports like football. Primarily, the sport had initiated as a form of recreational fun, but therefore lead into a trend. This popular trend later spread into competitiveness and in some schools, even idolized. At Premont High School, a small school in Texas, it was threatening to be shut down for the neglection of academics and a misuse of finance. All money funded was focused on being used to support all sports and the money raised, was a large amount of money. The solution was to suspend all sports and with that, changes were made. Teachers were retrained, the curriculum was raised to the appropriate standard, and too much avail, academics improved significantly. According to the article, when sports have been dominating, only 50 percent of the students were passing their classes. After changes were made, 80 percent were now passing. The author argues that with the suspension of sports, academics would be at a higher level than they are. With this argument, I agree with Ripley’s motion to cancel all sports. To many students, such as myself, it may seem irrational and absurd at first, but realistically it is a reasonable solution. Tons of money is being spent primarily to a sport and most times, aren't even at a winning season. Sports should not the prime focus. Schools are not instituted to emphasis on sports
What could you do to prepare your kids for success in the future? Sports are one of the best ways to prepare kids for success in the future for many reasons. According to University of Missouri Health Care, “Sports require memorization, repetition, and learning - skill sets that are directly relevant to class work.”(muhealth). Not only do sports help them become better students, but they also prepare them both mentally and physically and teach them multiple life lessons that will better them in the long run. The great thing about sports is that anyone can participate as long as they have the passion for it.
Kids are playing in a pressure pot full of stress and this is dangerous. They feel over-responsible toward team mates, parents and coaches and in consequence, are playing with chronic pain and even concussions. One-Sport Wonder Kids are deciding by ages 9-10 they want to excel in one sport in order to win a college scholarship.
Sports are a crucial part of an individual 's character. Counter arguments made against having sports at schools are getting more and more public. The arguments make people, think again about having students play sports. Sports are useful because they give players skills they can use on and off the field: strength, leadership, and confidence.
One option is something Premont High school employed: cutting sports out of schools altogether. This option worked well for Premont; it saved them money, improved academics, and helped decrease behavior issues (5-8). The only foreseeable issue, other than community disapproval, would be the fact that the school would have to cut all other extra-curricular activities. The more moderate, and possibly sensible, solution would be to greatly downsize the budget allotted for high-school sports. The greatest amount of funding would go to academics, and all extra-curricular activities and organizations would receive the same amount of funding. No matter what solution schools employ there will be pushback from the community, but a solution is necessary. Academics are a nonnegotiable factor of schools, and as a society, we seem to want to overlook this. Education shapes the future of America and the world; it’s unlikely that football will be enough to help us mold the world into a better
They don't think about paying for the sport they are going to play. This can make students second-guess themselves about playing and make them not want to play their sport. Schools should want more and more students to play sports. These reasons are terrible for students to stay in active and not play any sports. “Taxpayers are saying, ‘Let’s get rid of sports. We don’t have to pay for them,’ School boards are saying ‘Hey, it’s not mandatory to offer these programs.’ What we’re saying is, ‘Well, we still have something to offer that is very important in this country.’” (Popke, 2007, p. xx). Sports teach to students a lot in their life, it's a great deal of responsibility. So when students aren't playing sports they can be missing out on important lessons in their life. “While these programs are important to the students’ educational growth, the bills inevitably add up.”(Cerling & Herman, 2007, p.
Abstract: Society is affected every day by many different kinds of sports. These sports often govern society's way of life. People all over the nation turn their TVs to sporting events, such as golf, during the weekends. Scott Stossel states that "more than six million Americans enjoy watching golf on the weekends." Parents use sports as a teaching tool for their children. Kids learn teamwork and discipline from team sports programs and sports have also helped many students with their grades. Kids who want to compete in school sports are taught to keep their grades up or they won't be able to play, but the greedy coaches and schools often look around grades to keep their "star athletes" in the games. Adults have been affected by sports in their bank accounts. Tax increases for funding a new stadium, golf course and even school programs have hurt the middle class Americans. Sports have taken control of small communities and soon will take control of society
Sports. They are what we love and who we want to try to become someone who is relatively fit and able to become a person with a way to relieve stress. This is especially true in high school sports. I believe that high school sports shouldn't be banned... What do you think, do you want to take away the athletes fun? Personally, I believe there should be high school sports and let me tell you why. I believe there should be high school sports because the kids will have improved academics, also there is a better chance that kids won't get in as much trouble, also the kids who participate in sports will make more friendships and have better mentors from the coaches.
In the video Changing the game in youth sports John O’Sullivan, a professional soccer player and an experienced coach, says, “Few get scholarships others end up hating sports, damaging relationships, physical and emotional scars for the entire lifetime. We need to end this great race, change the game and give it back to the kids”(Sullivan). The parents and the coach criticized the kids for getting scholarships, getting on the team, winning each and every game. Kids end up having a lot of pressure and hence quit sports. Therefore, kids should not play competitive sports.
According to statistics gathered by youth sports organizations, “Up to 50 million kids play youth sports in America, and 73 percent who begin playing a sport quit before they turn 13” (Binns). The children could have quit because they did not like the disappointment of losing, or because they are exhausted from their parents pushing them too hard. But parents have their reasons for pushing their children into sports. “Studies show that kids who play sports are less likely to become obese, abuse drugs or alcohol or to perform poorly in school” (McCormick). If children are not active, then they will most likely become overweight, and if they have nothing to do in their pastime, they may turn to drugs and alcohol, which usually leads to a decrease of grades in school. A parent putting his/her child in sports gives the child something to do and keeps them fit. Parents also put their child in a sport hoping that he/she will get success out of it “Eager to nurture the next A-Rod or Michelle Kwan, parents enroll their 5- or 6-year-olds in a competitive sports league or program” (Stenson). While not all parents are pushing for future Olympians, the fight for a sports college scholarship is competitive and parents may feel that their child will have a better chance of gaining one if he/she starts competitive sports early. Parents push their children to succeed, and children--not wanting to disappoint their parents--push themselves, sometimes harder than they should. If done right, pushing a child into sports can have a positive effect on the child’s interaction with other children while teaching them commitment and healthy competition. However, focusing on winning and earning a scholarship versus having fun may backfire, because the cons...
Injuries often happen in sports and playing, and the kids gettin hurt are younger than they should be. Children as yound as seven and eight years old, are getting injuries bad enough for it to affect their futures. Even so, lessening this is possible if you just try.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
Most Americans go to college right after high school, about 69.2% of students (nces.ed.gov, n.d.). However, paying for sports is pretty expensive. According to the Huffington Post, “In the United States, parents spend $671 on average per year to cover the costs of uniforms and the hefty fees charged for registration, lessons and coaching, and at least 1 in 5 ends up spending over $1,000 per child, every year.” Consequently, the National Alliance for Sports found that 70% of kids quit sports by age 13 (Wallace, 2016), which results in thousands of dollars wasted. The Huffington Post also said that, “The result, according to TurboTax’s most recent infographic, is that youth sports are no longer an excellent opportunity for social involvement determined by passion and skill, but by the family’s financial resources, sustaining a $5 billion-a-year industry.” This obviously shows that the biggest part about sports is no longer the social interactions and the fun of playing the sport, but it's more focused on the financial opportunities that the sports industry can have. Sports may help get scholarships for kids that will save a lot of money, but it all goes down the drain when they quit. Sports are getting too expensive, and the money can go to better use by using it to pay for college
sports may not harm the athletes education. .School sports can get you scholarships from the best
