From the things he earned in Hispaniola he set a goal to find an island that is know as present day Puerto Rico were he had heard rumors from the Indians that there was gold buried there and also that it was a rich island. So he lead an expedition and he worked his magic on this island were he stayed, built a stone mansion and stayed for many years then returned to Hispaniola. The trouble that had started in 1509 had caused Juan Ponce de Leon many problems because of the Spanish monarchy and its politics. This problem would cause him to move away from the land of the Indies where he had great success. This is the discovery that he is well know of. When he discovered Florida it was Easter time that is were he got the inspiration because it was Easter time when flowers were blooming and they were everywhere so he decided to name us the Florida which means the "The Flowery land." He started exploring the land then he returned to Puerto Rico but was later to return to the Florida. Coming to Florida for the second time would be his last time coming, it took Ponce de Leon seven years to come he came with 50 horses and 200 well prepared men ready to tackle his next adventure but unfortunately died when an early group of Native Americans attacked him with poisoned arrows. The fountain of youth is a myth that supposedly could cure disease and reverse the aging process it is said that Juan Ponce de Leon was inspired and based an entire expedition searching for this fountain but the truth is that Juan Ponce de Leon never was looking for this. In fact many research from experts has proved that he was never searching the fountain of youth but was connected to him to make him look gullible and to turn Ponce de Leon into a poster boy. The proof is that in none of the documents from his time or letters that he wrote show or signal that he was search for such a thing. And another thing there was a contract and a follow up contract that Juan Ponce de Leon would receive to search for an island named Bimini and to stay there in 1512 and it never mentions a single word about the famous Fountain of Youth. The only thing that Juan was interested in was finding islands and trying to make a profitable new governorship.
