Recommended: Life story of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain was the legendary lead singer of arguably one of the most influential bands in recent history, Nirvana. He was born February 20th 1967 and committed suicide in his Seattle home on April 5th 1994. (No he didn’t, Courtney Love totally killed him but that’s just a theory and also beside the point of this paper.) When Kurt Cobain committed “suicide” he was found with a shotgun shot to the face and over three times the lethal dosage of heroin in his system. His sudden death shocked the country and people still visit the site of the “suicide” today. Cobain’s childhood was not a pleasant one. His parents constantly fought and finally got a divorce when he was 9 years old. This caused a lot of emotional problems for baby Kurt. After the divorce, Kurt lived with his mom but eventually moved in with his dad and his stepmother Jenny. Kurt hated his stepmother and her children because he felt that his father only took Jenny’s side and never gave Kurt enough attention. He spent a lot of his childhood feeling alienated and angry and when he was 14 his uncle gave him a guitar which he used as an outlet for all his anger. He struggled with depression, heroin addiction, and several illnesses. The illnesses made themselves more prevalent primarily towards the end of his life. He often found that his lyrics and music were deeply misunderstood and misinterpreted by the media and by the general public. This caused his seemingly constant and unresolved anger to continue to grow. Honestly, Kurt Cobain was just a big, ridiculously talented ball of anger and empathy. Kurt eventually started becoming rebellious, unlike Brad, who actually enjoyed the time spent with each parent alone after their divorce. When Brad was eleven, his father took him on a trip to the Virgin Islands where Brad was exposed to the reggae culture of music. This is where most of his influences were developed. He began to teach himself to play the guitar and practice reggae and punk-rock music all day everyday, which had later made him famous. Kurt, on the other hand, had come upon his influences in a different way. Growing up near Seattle, the Pacific Northwest had more of a hardcore punk-rock scene. He started smoking marijuana and taking other drugs like LSD and pain killers. He, like Brad, had begun teaching himself chords on the guitar and creating local bands across Seattle. Kurt had also spend a lot of time reading at the local library to gain more information that he knew he wouldn't learn in school. For instance, he would read books on society and cultures around the states, which influenced many of his songs he had written that had led to his fame.

They all made up The Doors, but after the death of the lead singer Jim Morrison, the band's popularity dropped significantly. They did though produce three albums after Morrison's untimely demise (all of which were not very popular). Jim Morrison died on July 4th, 1971, in Paris, France. He was 27 years old at the time of death (the same age Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin died at also). He was found in his bathtub with a cute smirk on his face.
