Why Did Kurt Cobain Commit Suicide

Kurt Cobain was the legendary lead singer of arguably one of the most influential bands in recent history, Nirvana. He was born February 20th 1967 and committed suicide in his Seattle home on April 5th 1994. (No he didn’t, Courtney Love totally killed him but that’s just a theory and also beside the point of this paper.) When Kurt Cobain committed “suicide” he was found with a shotgun shot to the face and over three times the lethal dosage of heroin in his system. His sudden death shocked the country and people still visit the site of the “suicide” today. Cobain’s childhood was not a pleasant one. His parents constantly fought and finally got a divorce when he was 9 years old. This caused a lot of emotional problems for baby Kurt. After the divorce, Kurt lived with his mom but eventually moved in with his dad and his stepmother Jenny. Kurt hated his stepmother and her children because he felt that his father only took Jenny’s side and never gave Kurt enough attention. He spent a lot of his childhood feeling alienated and angry and when he was 14 his uncle gave him a guitar which he used as an outlet for all his anger. He struggled with depression, heroin addiction, and several illnesses. The illnesses made themselves more prevalent primarily towards the end of his life. He often found that his lyrics and music were deeply misunderstood and misinterpreted by the media and by the general public. This caused his seemingly constant and unresolved anger to continue to grow. Honestly, Kurt Cobain was just a big, ridiculously talented ball of anger and empathy.
