When Adolf Hitler was appointed to be Chancellor of Germany in 1933, there was the ability to move the National Socialist party forward and gain momentum. The Nazi party held many ideals that were important and specific to the party. They had strived to achieve a pure German race without and “flaws.” To be able to gain the momentum and publicity, the Nazi’s used propaganda to get the ideals of the party to the people. Through the propaganda and radio broadcasting the Nazi party was able to convince the general population, basically brainwashing them, to create a unified Germany.

I believe that Goebbels wanted to create a ministry that is double sided, and has two stories. I just depends what side you hear it from, the truth that he receives or the embellished stories that the ministries put out to manipulate the population to think the way that they would like. He is candid when he talks about how it must be intriguing to the listener of viewer of the propaganda for the importance of capturing the attention.
The Nazi party is notorious for using lots of propaganda. This manipulation of the press was a track to keep the people appeased with the idea that the war was in their favor. The press was a way to blind the public to the actual happenings of the war front. These newspapers were not only just being printed within Germany, the ministry would also put out statements internationally that would report of the conditions of Germany better than they actually were. Since the citizens thought that the country was in a much better situation than it was in reality, many people believed to have “beautiful childhood[s].” Many citizens of the third reich were able to be immune to the pain and suffering to the surrounding them. Therefore, in Hitler’s eyes, a dictatorship was the only way to save Germany from the threats of communism and Jewish treason. The Program of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party was the instrument for the Nazis to convince the German people to put Hitler into power. Prior to the Nazi takeover of Germany, the nation had been suffering deeply. An economic depression, large-scale unemployment, and the shame of losing World War I had put Germany in a dark place. The Nazi’s were incredibly aware of this, and their propaganda at the time reflected a need to reunite the German people. Propaganda appealed to national pride, and putting ones country before themselves. Of course, a strong united people needed a leader that was just as strong, and the “myth of Hitler” would create that leader. Slogans like “One People, one Fuhrer, one Reich!” promoted national unity, and a Wochenspruch from February 1938 states, “The greatest of all sacrifices is to give one’s life to preserve the existence of the community.” Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will comes from this time period and helps form the mythological image of Hitler. Propaganda also focused on the good the Nazi party was doing. It discussed how well the Nazi welfare system was working, newsreels showed happy German people enjoying the benefits of the Nazi regime.
In conclusion, even though the Nazi political party was known for their constant dependence on advertising, throughout the World War II and all history this king of propaganda has been no stranger to any type of government. Its power should never be underestimated since it has the ability to be used as a weapon of political warfare and determine the magnitude of the sovereignty of a particular government, in other words, it can make or break a social movement. It portrayed Hitler as a strong leader to whom every German should give their loyalty, reinforced beliefs of Aryan supremacy, the Jewish menace and communist danger. Additionally, these forms of propaganda targeted the emotions of the German people and therefore pushed the goals of the Nazi party in relation to military and territorial expansion.
No one would attempt to remove the current government from power if he or she agreed with that government. Control of the media was another very effective means of controlling a population. The Nazis are infamous for their heavy use of propaganda during their reign in the Third Reich, they used many means of propaganda such as posters, cartoons, radio, film, etc. The German citizens’ constant exposure to all of this propaganda from all directions had a deep psychological and psychoanalytical impact on them, it redefined their identity and who they were as well as what they thought of the world around them. Nazi propaganda often had deep symbolic meaning usually associated with anti-semitism and German nationalism, these elements were already present in the minds of the majority of Germans so it wasn’t hard for Adolf Hitler and the rest of the Nazi party to further provoke and enrage the emotions of people concerning these things, they merely had to tap into these pre disposed emotions in a way that would have the most favourable psychological impact for the Nazis.
