“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Nelson Mandela). This quote to me means a great deal, we as Americans are so fortuitous to have the ability to further our education after high school. More and more students are graduating with high-school diplomas than ever before, but that does not mean that more individuals are attending college afterwards (Wong). I have learned over the years watching my group of friends grow smaller and smaller that college is not for everyone, but it is for me. Regrettably, when I graduated from high-school I did not go straight to college, I took a few years off and decided I would rather have a steady income on a weekly basis. I am someone who just does not enjoy being talked to or talked at, I blank out during lectures and always hate myself when I have to wake up in the morning and drive for forty-five minutes to get to school where I waste my whole day feeling miserable. Maybe college is just not for me. The only reason that I chose to attend college was because my family expected it of me. My grandparents pushed me to go to med school and my mom just wanted me to go to obtain a degree. I hate the idea of throwing ridiculous sums of money into the school systems pockets so that most of their instructors can sit back and basically instruct you on which book to buy so that you, the student, can teach yourself. It makes me sick. I need to work on finding the career that is going to benefit me in the long run. I think that I need to crack down on the research and find a school that I want to go to and a career that I enjoy. I need to work on doing things for me rather than doing them for my family or to impress my family, you never realize that you are doing it until it is too
