Sociology is described as the study of human behavior in society. A sociologist studies the organizations, institutions and developments of these cultures. Their specific focus is recognizing the reasons for changes in relationships between individuals and groups. Emile Durkheim, a French social scientist during the mid 1800s to early 1900s, developed a dynamic style of combining experiential research with sociological theory (“Emile Durkheim”). Thus, he is commonly known as the founder of the French school of sociology and the father of sociology. These are people who are not involved in social activities, which cause them to feel like an outsider. They believe they are all they have to depend on, and they become isolated and helpless. Due to these feelings of a lack of belonging, the person takes their life. Another classification is Altruistic Suicide. Opposite of Egoistic suicide, the people who commit Altruistic Suicide are deeply involved in a group. “This type of suicide happens when a group or society has very influential power over individuals.” (Literaturenerd) The person’s main objective is to accomplish the goal of the group. The individual feels as though a greater power is causing them to take their own life. Durkheim’s third type of suicide is Anomic Suicide. This type of suicide involves people who feel confused, frustrated and are unsure of how to handle the different changes in society. They feel as though they have lost their integrity and have no sense of direction in their lives.
