The main character of the book is Mordred. This book is told in the point of view of Mordred. Mordred was born to Queen Morgause and King Arthur and because Queen Morgause is Arthur's sister, Mordred was fated to kill his father when he grew up. Nyneve is another important character. She tries to help Mordred and tries to prevent his fate. She is a sorceress. King Arthur is "the good king". He is seen as a fair and great ruler by his people. He is Mordred's son. Morgan le Fay is another sorceress. She is Mordred's aunt. She wants to team up with Mordred to overthrow King Arthur, but Mordred doesn't want to team up with her or kill King Arthur. Merlin is seen as the bad guy in the book. He predicted Mordred's future. He is enemies with Nyneve …show more content…

Gull is Mordred's loyal dog. Mordred didn't want his fate to come true. But it did. It all started out when Queen Morgause and King Arthur gave birth to Mordred. Because Queen Morgause and King Arthur are siblings, Mordred was fated to kill his father. The book starts with, "When I was a baby, my father tried to kill me". When Mordred was just a baby, King Arthur tried to kill him by placing him naked on a coracle and casting him adrift on the sea because King Arthur knew that when Mordred grew up, he would die because of Mordred. King Arthur didn't want to do it, but he knew that he had to. Mordred was found by a fishermother and a fisherfather. He is happy with his fishermother and father. Nyneve brings Mordred to Lothian and tells him that King Lothe is his father and Queen Morgause is his mother. The part about his mother is true, but it's complicated because Morgause is married to Lothe. The king agrees to let Mordred stay, although he is not too happy about it. King Lothe and Queen Morgause have two real sons: Garet and Gawain. They treat him like trash, and King Lothe and Queen Morgause prefer Gawain and Garet over Mordred. When Gawain turned 16, he left for Camelot to serve King Arthur. The same happened to Garet. Finally, after waiting for so long, Mordred turns 16. He goes to Camelot. He has already learned that his real father is King Arthur. Garet and Gawain have changed at Camelot, because they are happier now, and they are nicer to Mordred. When Mordred finally meets King Arthur in court, he sees that King Arthur is very nice. However, all Mordred wants is to avoid his fate and for King Arthur to call him son. King Arthur does not call him son, however, because that would cause war and also because he was kind of ashamed. Mordred wants to go on a quest for the grail, and King Arthur approves, so Mordred leaves Camelot to search for the grail. He searches, but can't find the grail,
