Morgan le Fay is commonly known as Arthur’s nemesis in the stories of King Arthur and his knights of the around Table. When people think about her, she is stereotyped as an evil sorceress whose main goal is to destroy King Arthur and all of Camelot. In almost all of the legends, she is described as an evil witch who uses her magic only for her own gain. However, she can also be described as a very misunderstood character. Even though she is portrayed as an evil witch, she has an interesting and somewhat unfortunate backstory. Morgan le Fay was not always as nefarious as she is depicted. She plays a very important role in the story of King Arthur and many others. She provides the mystery and sense of danger that make help make a story more enticing. …show more content…

Morgen is her name….” In keeping with the medieval beliefs, if she was so beautiful that her beauty excelled that of all of her sisters, she had to have been a very good person. Today, we know that a person's outer beauty does not form the definition his or her inner character. However, if this was believed to be true in medieval times, wouldn't Morgan le Fay’s incredible beauty have to mean that she was filled with incredible good? Even though Morgan le Fay was said to be a good person who used the magical powers that she possessed for the good of others, she did become evil. Contrary to popular belief, most of her villainous acts stemmed from her hatred of Queen Guinevere. At one point in her life, Morgan le Fay was Guinevere’s hand maiden. She then fell in love with a knight who happened to be Guinevere’s cousin. When Guinevere learned of this news, she broke up the relationship in fear that it would cause a scandal. Morgan le Fay was heartbroken. She never forgave Queen Guinevere, and swore she would get her revenge. The rest of Morgan le Fay's life was then spent plotting evil schemes to ultimately kill Queen Guinevere, and thus, get her revenge. It was Guinevere's act of taking away Morgan le Fay's love and happiness that lead Morgan to become the evil witch who was hell bent on destroying Arthur, the knights of the Round Table, and the rest of
