BYOD leads to lower costs as companies do not buy they devices for the employee, the employees buy or use their own devices. It also leads to better familiarity with technology on the user side because the user will use the type of device they know best, rather that be android, apple, or even windows devices. Another advantage is the flexibility of BYOD because user will not need to carry around their personal device and then a work device. However, no matter how good the advantages are there are disadvantages. Such as the cost of the device and repairs shifts from the company to the employee. Another big issue is the wide variety of operating systems and corresponding versions of said system you have to get working with company applications. This then leads to a security issue and making sure employees do not bring in viruses and keep other employees from recording company data.

BYOD is great as it lets employees have a personal choice of what you want to bring to work and the employees are happier for that. This this leads to better work life and personal life balance as the need for multiple devices is lower, the employee has one phone for personal and work. Also the company gets to use the more advanced phones that the employees will have. Most of the time the company will settle with an older device however the employee’s device will be newer and more up to date and the company can use that to their advantage. User productivity goes up with all this also, instead of spending minutes trying to figure out how to send that email or reply it can be done much faster on a more familiar device.
