"Kindness is the golden chain by which society is banded together" (Wolfgang). Wolfgang shares an important message in the previous quote that kindness is extremely vital in order to keep our society united together. Yet, there are issues with this golden chain that need to be addressed before it ends up being broken. Generally, people think of kindness in a singular and distinct way, which is being friendly or considerate. However, its description can vary from this definition. This definition regards only one of the five senses, sight. It disregards the other four, which can be argued as the most important. Once the students' books are dropped, the pupil quickly looks around, silently begging for a kind soul to stop and help them. Suddenly, someone does. As the rest of the student's only glance at their distressed classmate, one has made the decision to show kindness in a unique way and helps pick up the books. This small act of kindness may see to have no significance to the other observers at the moment it occurs, but the anticipation is that other students will be inspired by the one student who made the decision to help and that it will cause everyone to reevaluate how they handle similar situations. Similar to how news stations often broadcast acts of kindness that have turned into a chain, such as ABC News' segment titled "Random Acts of Kindness", that is the hope of this one student: that their act of stopping to help their friend will inspire others to do the same at a later time. As one donates their time, money, or physical items, the donator, and their possession of kindness quickly becomes confirmed. Many organizations rely wholly on donations from strangers. Donations to charities, such as nonprofits, can make an enormous impact. The thought of losing everything you have can sometimes be one thought that causes the most stress to people who are in difficult situations. This is especially challenging for those who have to attempt to prepare for it, such as with natural disasters. Hurricane Harvey ravaged through the streets of Texas on August 25, 2017, through September 3, 2017. Its arms reached into the home of thousands of Texans and took everything that had any value from them. This monster took homes, cars, personal possessions, and even the most valuable thing of all, human lives with it as it devastated portions of the Lone Star state. Seventy-seven human lives and an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 cars were destroyed. Once this terrible disaster completed its course, the immediate response from society was overwhelming. Donations poured in from all over the country; donation pages became trending all over social media, and people from all over were inquiring about how to help these distraught hurricane survivors.
