More than a dozen deaths, billions of dollars in damages and thousands of families that lost their entire lives in just over seven days. By the last week of the month of August, 39 counties in Texas were stripped of their valuables due to the massive flooding. The great cause of the damage was Hurricane Harvey, a category four storm making it one of the biggest hurricanes to ever make landfall in Texas. People from all over the country reached out and became one to aid victims of this natural disaster. Only month after the storm Texas still battles to surpass the emotional and physical damage that this storm created for our people. From the first nigh the storm took over the city of Houston many people waited out for the storm to just pass by from their homes. Thousands of people refused to evacuate after the warnings of heavy rains and high rise of waters. Unfortunately, many regret not leaving their homes when they were told to do so. “Now they're having to be rescued,” Alston said. “If we had known it would be like this, I think we would've left.” (Malewitz). Apartments, townhouses, business, local stores, schools and much more were completely underwater. The sun was shining bright but the darkness stayed a little longer. "The word catastrophic does not appropriately describe what we're facing," said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who represents much of Houston. "We just don't know when it's going to end." (Griggs). By now most of the country knew the damages that were left by the hurricane, starting a movement to aid those in all the counties that lost so much in so little time.
