The Acceptance Speech for the Nobel Peace Prize, written by Elie Wiesel, helps us understand the past and honor the victims that had died during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel brought up some good points in his speech. Three points he brought up in his speech help us honor the Holocaust victims. Those points are: understanding what the Jews had to go through, stepping into another time period, so we can visualize what happened during this time, and remembering the tragic event known as the Holocaust, so we don’t repeat it. Literature can help us remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust.

Elie Wiesel survived the Holocaust and he does not want anyone to repeat it. Understanding what the Jews had to go through, makes us not want to repeat the Holocaust. In his speech, Elie Wiesel said that Jews had to starve during the Holocaust. He was also talking about Political Persecution toward Jews, which means Jews had to be sent to concentration camps and were prohibited to get jobs. More importantly, Elie Wiesel stated that, “For us, forgetting was never an option.” Those that survived felt that they needed to document what they had witnessed.
