Thomas Alva Edison was a unique inventor whose work cannot be easily forgotten in history, as a result of his legacies. To mention a few of his legacies; “The wizard of Menlo Park” ushered in the age of electricity and banished darkness. Looking back to the 1800’s before Edison’s electric bulb and electric light distribution, and thinking of what it means to people today, clearly spells the difference. Thomas Edison is an inventor of major technology. Threw his years he had studied many books by his parents and been reading many books on chemistry and electricity. He was an American inventor who is considered one of America’s leading businessman. People today credit him for helping to build America’s economy during the nation’s vulnerable early years. Thomas had a very good childhood and was a very hard worker as a teenager. He invented the universal stock printer and he perfected the lightbulb.
The Wizard of Menlo Park, formally known as Thomas Edison, was born into a medium sized family and lost most of his hearing by the time he turned 14. Essentially being a self-taught student, Edison, by the end of his career, held over 1,000 patents in America alone (“Thomas Edison Home.”). He made inventions that reduced the workload of people by a substantial amount. His inventions were many and helped many more by contributing masses of technological advances and providing them at an affordable price to families that needed them.
Thomas Edison is also an inventor. He invented a lightbulb that banished the darkness. In the video it shows that Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb which was the first lightbulb. This shows that Thomas Edison invented something that changed the world by banishing the darkness, so just like the first telephone and the even better telephones changed the world by banishing the silence because people can now talk for hours without going anywhere. Also in the video, Thomas Edison invented something that not only changed the world but benefited all. This proves that the lightbulb is a product that lets everybody see in the dark. From a discovery made by one of his associates, he patented the Edison effect (now called thermionic diode), which is the basis for all electron tubes. Edison will forever be remembered for his contributions to the incandescent light bulb. Even though he didn't dream up the first light bulb ever crafted, and technology continues to change every day, Edison's work with light bulbs was a spark of brilliance on the timeline of invention.
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most influential inventors and innovators of the Twentieth Century. Edison’s efforts ushered in a new era of technology; a world in which electricity would be harnessed and made to bow before man’s will. Walter Lippman wrote, “It is impossible to measure the importance of Edison by adding up the specific inventions with which his name is associated” (qtd. in Baldwin 409). Edison’s decades long career was a synergistic melding of his success as an inventor and his prowess as a promoter and businessman. He exemplified the ideals of intelligence married to hard work and perseverance. He forever changed the landscape of American invention and the limits of technological change (Baldwin 409).
He also built the Edison Electric Light Company to find a way to use electricity to light the incandescent bulbs. In 1882, Thomas Edison used his incandescent bulb in all the office buildings and houses on the Pearl Street. Many people came to the Pearl Street to see the all of the buildings and houses are light with electricity. This was a great achievement in Thomas Edison’s life.
