Ethics also includes the moral codes or values that a person holds, which are more personal than the codes of ethics. Some of the moral codes and values that I hold include; doing good to others, being fair to all, respecting others and their needs for privacy, being honest and ensuring that I contribute to the society in the best possible way. I believe that one should do good to others even when others do not do the same in return. The way others choose to treat a person should not determine how that person treats them because if the nature of that individual is to do good, then external factors should
Morals could, in a way, be considered subjective. A certain society of people may have different morals depending on their culture, religion, or overall experiences in life. However I feel that the concept of at least basic morality is an important one in the survival of the human race. Without basic morals the world would fall into more chaos than it is already in. Morality is important for society to partake in because it sets boundaries so that we may, in theory, live in harmony with others.
Everyone needs to obey the same set of rules to have a good moral character. So does breaking these rules make a person immoral? Virtue ethics essentially focuses on creating a morally good character. Also, these moral decisions are said to make you a happier, well-lived, person. Without virtue ethics, ones ethical behavior would be difficult to determine.
My hope is to always be an example, and being ethical is the foundation of setting a good example for others. The old adage, “actions speak louder than words” rings true in relation to ethics. I aim to show people what my moral principles are based on my actions. At times, it can get difficult because I might let emotions cloud my judgment, but after all, doing the right thing for the sake of others is most important to me.
At times you may need to break some of the traditional moral rules to achieve such an outcome. Kantianism is another theory which highlights the principles behind actions rather than an actions results. It states that it requires to be motivated by good principles that treats everyone with respect. If you’re motivated by good principles, you overcome your animal instinct and act ethically. Another ethical theory is the Contract theory, which suggest that ethics should be thought of as terms of agreements between people.
However, moral issues are more personal while some laws that apply to a community govern ethical issues. Any action that goes against the principles of that community is unethical. This of course varies from generation to generation and from community to community. Therefore, by operating under the foundation of the good will and doing good deeds for others, I believe the code is moral because it considers the welfare of everyone, not just one individual. As time goes by, it is important to review the values one has in order to ensure that necessary changes are made when the needs of the community
Furthermore, they could either end up being good or bad; however, it all depends on the situation. Ethics are described by many factors that define a person’s characteristic; however, they can influence what we believe is right or wrong as well. More importantly, we need to understand that ethics will continue to change. Because ethics are an important subject, it can influence a great deal how we identify ourselves to others, development of culture, as well as involvement in social events. Ethics means a moral principle of right or wrong (Lawrence & Weber, 2016a).
Most people do not really understand the full importance of ethical thinking; there may be a different code of ethics throughout society but nevertheless the purpose remains the same. I believe the primary purpose of ethics is obviously to be able to distinguish good from bad behavior. Being able to make this distinction will pave the way for success or failure in a person’s life as to whether they can make conformed decisions. Everyone practices morals in some way whether they know it or not, they are implemented into every given situation. Ethics were put into place to be able to do the right thing in certain circumstances in order to maintain an honest and fair society.
A person’s approval of something makes it morally right; a person’s disapproval of something makes it morally wrong. Cultural Relativism claims that what is morally right and wrong depends on the moral codes of certain cultures. In order for an individual to be moral, he must act in accord with the moral codes of the society to which he belongs. Even though there are great distinctions between these two theories, they both emphasize that moral standard cannot be determined without referring to s... ... middle of paper ... ...t or wrong? 4.
Discussion of The Issues Raised in Meta-Ethics Ethics is the study of how people behave, and how they should behave. It is based on ideas of what is morally 'good'. But, in order to understand ethics, a definition of 'good' needs to be determined. Here, one sees that such ideas will vary from person to person and from culture to culture. Likewise, such ideas explain why there is such a variety of moral systems in use today and a marked difference in the level of commitment to a personal moral code.
