I would just like to start by thanking you for giving me the chance to provide you with the following report of Wellness in Qantas and potential ramifications that can be put In place to help create a successful company and improve wellness for the staff. I have researched and compared Qantas with other companies to try and find the most applicable and substantial practices that you can incorporate into Qantas. From my research of Qantas I concluded that there are a few procedures in place to address mental illness which can be easily cheated and are superficial in gathering information about the staffs wellness. The main cause of this was the fact that he was suffering depression months before the flight, trying to cope with a breakup with his wife. Paul managed to clear a multiple health tests taken a month before flying. A spokesman for Qantas stated, “Paul passed his annual medical check in February this year. He also passed his proficiency check in November 2015, which includes simulator testing.” (Houghton, 2016). The fact that Paul was able to pass these tests displays the lack of depth that Qantas have in assuring pilots and staff are mental fit for flying. Griffith University psychiatrist Harry McConnell explained that, “ Mental health checks could not pick up sudden changes in stability and called for pilots to more readily report warning signs of their peers to managers.”(Houghton, 2016). The main problems facing Qantas is terms of addressing mental health is that the tests lack depth, are easy to pass and their aren’t enough tests to fully know what the staff are
