Many individuals fear death because as humans we are scared of the unknown. We would rather stay inside our comfort zone and be around what we are used to and were raised with. In the process of growing up we are forced to experience change and live through different stages. Starting my college “stage” at UCR has been the most drastic change in my life. It is amazing how in less than ten weeks my persona and knowledge have developed drastically. I went to high school in Bloomington, Southern California, anyone who has spent time around that area knows that it is vastly a latino based population. Yes the material I have encountered these past few weeks is not close to the previous high school courses I have been through, but I believe I was prepared and ready for academic change. Socially I have always been weak, as a kid at parties it was extremely difficult for my mother to separate me from her and make me play with other kids, I have always avoided people as much as possible. Because of this I had also grown very independent, I would never seek help simply to avoid having to interact with others. This brought both negatives and positives for my first quarter of college. Positive outcomes include that being independent made it easy for me to figure things out on my own. Negatively whenever I got stuck it was difficult for me to seek the help needed. Now I have learned that as a society we need each other to make progress. I have also learned that UCR has many programs specifically designed to help students. Knowing that these are specifically to guide students made it easier for me to go to them.The first time that I really got the courage to ask for help was with a Sociology paper that was worth twenty five percent of the course grade, and the professor said he was willing to revise raft drafts. Knowing that getting help specifically from him would make my chances of a good grade a lot higher forced me to come out of my
