The Cold War was a war that should not have been fought, as there was truly no reason to do so. It was a war of ideology, and it killed millions of people for no reason/result. After WW2, the US and USSR had growing tensions, due to the bombing of Japan, and the political diversity between the two countries. The Cuban Missile Crisis began when the USSR teamed up with Cuba. The US felt somewhat threatened, since Cuba is so close to us. The US would invade, and claimed it as a defensive action, although we did try to overthrow their leader, but the US failed, miserably. The Cubans responded by asking the Soviets for missiles, to protect them from future invasions. In October 1962, the US found missile sites in Cuba, aimed at every US city within reach (practically all of them). The United States went right to the USSR and demanded they remove the missiles, or we would invade again. In an attempt to prevent nuclear war, the missiles were removed, at the promise that we don’t invade Cuba. This shows that the Cold War was inevitable because the growing tension between the US and the USSR led to the Soviets lending Cuba missiles, which they had planned to attack us with. Had we not discovered these missiles, the war could have gotten to a whole new level. Also, this proves that the war was inevitable because Cuba was communist, which directly relates back to the theme of this whole war, communism vs anti communism.
