Growing up animals have always been a huge part of my life, whether it be having a pet, or helping herd cattle. My advocacy for the care of animals was based on society's thoughts imploding on my young mind, and that was the only way to think. My thoughts on animals have changed when in comes to the ethics, societal roles, and the use of animals in science.
Ethical decisions for animals had never fully crossed my mind in as deep of a way it has in this class. The whole “vote with your paw” has made a huge impact on my views as far as ethics goes. I only had the information society gave me, and that is what depicted what was right or wrong for me. With all the new information I have, and the knowledge between welfare and rights, I can finally form an educated ethical answer when people ask me if it is okay to use animals in this way, or do that to them. Animals have just as much of a right to vote as humans, the only difference is that animals need a human to communicate for them. Animals play a huge role in our day to day lives whether it be our food, pet, or even just the birds we here outside. The way these animals are treated should not differ based on what they were bred to do, or what their life behold at the end. As I said previously, all of my information came from society on how certain animals are treated, which I have learned is quite unreliable. Animal product is a huge part of our diet, and just because they will be slaughtered soon, does not mean they get treated poorly and they have to suffer. Another problem of mine is the whole,”It’s just a chicken, who cares?” Even a chicken can feel all their pain, and have mental problems from horrible living conditions.
