In the second observation in the unstructured setting and observing, still, 16-18 year old boys and girls we found a change in environment brought about the opportunity to play different sports in the gym rather than the outside turf field. In this observation students were playing frisbee, soccer, basketball, or hockey. The especial focus and observation was on the students playing basketball because of the more likeliness the students were going to jump to catch or shoot a ball. The difference between the boys and girls was that the boys were stronger and faster and more aggressive in carrying the ball down the court. The day I observed them they were primarily working on blocking. The practice was mainly based around further increasing their understanding learning the basics steps on how to attain the maximum upward for when jumping and strengthening their multilimb coordination. There was organized play occurring. Players mainly worked on individual skills to better their own performance. This occurred in a closed environment. Players showed slightly better motor learning due to the stress-reduced environment. Players are generally very skilled at this level of play and are eager to learn more. Players were trying consistently to achieve maximum height with their vertical jump. Teammates were constantly encouraging others to do better in a positive manner because they are older and in college this cause more stress and reduces the margin for error. This is partially due to the fact that this specific event occurred in a closed environment. A closed has advantages and disadvantages that come with it. One main advantage is no environmental setbacks, which means that there is nothing like wind or hurricanes to affect the participant’s performance. However there are many disadvantages such as very crowded, a loud causing emotional stress from the fact of not wanting to mess up, can seem like there is a smaller margin for error even though the setting has not changed at all.
