View on High School Homework There has been controversy about whether or not students should be required to do homework ever since the 1950’s because some think it doesn’t help students. Although critics say that homework does not directly affect academic scores, teachers should still be assigning homework because it teaches students key skills for their future. Many valuable skills are enforced and taught from doing homework, especially at a high school level. Skills taught from doing homework are not just beneficial for four years of high school, but for the rest of a young person’s life. One thing about homework is that the student cannot raise his or her hand to have the teacher help his/her, and students are often forced to figure out how to get help at home if needed. Parents are usually all about helping, especially in high school when students sometimes distance themselves from their parents at times. Having a good relationship with your parents helps with being able to affectively get things done at home, and most of the time a parent can help explain how to do certain homework problems that may be too difficult. If a parent can’t explain it to the student, they can usually be there to at least motivate him/her or help look up how to do certain things that must be done. When students do homework it allows to teacher to be able to see who is struggling or needs help before tests too, which is an amazing benefit because it can mean the difference of an F or an A most of the time. When teachers can see how each student are doing individually in class daily, it helps the teacher know what he or she needs to be going over in class to help students understand as well. Teaches aren’t just able to interact with the students, but also talk to parents if a parent emails a teacher needing help helping their child with homework.
