For this history video reaction review analysis, I selected the Vietnam War Folder. This review will take a closer look at the ‘Domino Theory, John F. Kennedy at the UN on Vietnam, Lyndon B. Johnson’s Speech on the Gulf of Tonkin Incident in 1964 and Vietnam, Richard Nixon’s address to the Nation to end the Vietnam War in 1973, the Fall of Saigon news footage, and the Antiwar demonstrators storming the Pentagon.
The Domino Theory explains the importance of America choosing to play their cards correctly when making decisions. Johnson’s Speech on the Gulf of Tonkin Incident addresses the reoccurring hostile activity on America which began August Second 1964. The incident was repeated, attacking with torpedoes and aircrafts dropping bombs; resulting in two sunken ships lost at sea, but no lost soldiers of the Unites States of America Army. Because Johnson is President during this time, his speech is directed towards informing the American people of what is going on overseas and what to expect moving forward. Johnson also speaks on his ordering of the military to take action and reply against the attackers firmly. Johnson wants to ensure that America will reply with force and alert, yet keep their efforts positive. Johnson’s attitude and position on this topic remain regretful, but knows that it is important to stand our ground towards succeeding at peace in the end. He wants to make sure that all parties of American government continue to work together through meetings and making decisions with the advice of leaders helping to support one another. The North and the South began a war amongst themselves putting many South Asian civilians in danger as the North had gained strength. American Marines were involved in helping Asians who assisted American government during war. These government workers were paraded onto planes and ships where military equipment had to be sacrificed, dumped in the ocean to rescue as many people from South Asia possible. With much effort, still more than one million government workers were left behind. Saigon was soon after renamed Ho Chi Minh City and the presidential palace was taken down. This shows that America’s effort to help them end in peace did not exactly happen that
