Soraya and Amir were trying to adopt but the afghans in their country were being judgmental towards the fact that they wanted to adopt. According to the article Adoption not an option in the Washington times "International or foreign adoption just isn't done in many countries, adoption experts say. The main reasons are religious restrictions and cultural norms that don't allow adoption by non-relatives, and a lack of government rules on foreign adoption". The afghan culture doesn't approve of adoption because they are not blood related and their culture is religious whom they don’t believe in adoption whatsoever. The married couple had to also struggle over the fact that their ethnicity will be all over them because they don't think adoption is a good idea around Afghanistan. Soraya's father was not accepting the fact that they wanted to adopt a child. "Blood is a powerful thing, bachem, and when you adopt, you don't know whose blood you're bringing into your house" (188). It is not only Soraya's father not accepting a kid with a different blood type but everyone in their country is judgmental about the fact that they wanted to adopt a kid from the orphanage. Therefore; they seem to be struggling when they are trying to adopt him because they need to go through paper work so they can adopt him and take him to America with them. The married couple is making a big effort and they are willing adopt Sohrab but it seems as if they are struggling because they have to process everything. Although they still give them hopes about them adopting Sohrab even though the adoption agencies seem as if it were to be a hard work and dedication. Amir and Soraya will be good adoption parents their dedication is impressive because they know they will be great parents and the adoption process will be worth it for them because Amir and Soraya had a difficult childhood as they grew up because Amir father was a grumpy, mad man that didn't show his love and Soraya's father was always the typical afghan father that was so over protective with his wife and daughter and it was rough for her as she grew up she would always see her father be rough with her mother.
