Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States. He was born on April 27, 1882 in Point Pleasant, OH. His real name is Hiram Ulysses Grant. His middle name was actually "Ulysses" and he said that the "S" in his name stood for nothing. His father was Jesse Root Grant, born January 23, 1794, by Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He worked as a tanner and was rich. Jesse died on June 29, 1873 in Covington, Kentucky at 79 years old. Grant’s mom was Hannah Simpson Grant, born November 23, 1798, in Montgomery, Pennsylvania. She died in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 11, 1883, at the age of 84. On August 22, 1848, he married Julia Boggs Dent in St. Louis, Missouri. He was 26 and she was 22.
