The teen years is an emotional time for teenagers. One of the many responsibilities as one grows is for a teen and parent to understand one another. Relationships are hard for many teens, but being in a relationship is even harder when their parents do not support them. In the play , Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows what could possibly happen if parents do not accept the relationships of their children.
Romantica and identity are two types of crushes. In the article, “Adolescence and the Teenage Crush”, the author states that, “Romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom they find powerfully attractive, who they feel excited to be around, and with whom they want to spend a lot of time”(Pickhardt). In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows a romantic crush when he writes that, “Here’s to my love. O true apothecary, Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die”(5.3.119-120). In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare shows an identity crush when he writes, “O, let us hence; I stand on sudden haste”(2.4.100). Shakespeare is showing an identity crush , because Romeo is asking Friar Lawrence an important question that he would never ask his parents. Romeo looks up to Friar Lawrence because he is understanding and wise. Romeo could never tell his parents, because they would not understand and immediately shut the relationship down. In conclusion, parents should be more understanding about the relationships there child is in, because if they do then there child will tell them important details about the relationship and then one can understand that the child's relationship is based on who they look up
