When the skies are dark, and the snow is crisp, this is when murder is legal. I woke up at quarter to five, with the anticipation and excitement building endlessly. I slithered into my thermal pants and threw on my shirt in a blur of darkness, as I prepared for the season that i’ve waited for oh so long. I moved with unrivaled speed, but in a soundless manor, as to not wake my family; as I transitioned into the kitchen. I couldn’t fathom eating, with the pit in my stomach that felt as though I had feasted on rocks. As I forced on my coveralls and flew into my jacket, a vibrant shade that would never be seen by my victim. I grabbed my weapon of choice, a Russian made SKS, chambered in 7.62 by 39, enough power for the task; just like that I was out the door. The darkness made my eyes practically useless, just dots in the dark. While waiting on the porch, standing with the cold steel of the barrel resting in my arms, waiting to be used. The light beamed through the chilly air, as the headlights swerved into my driveway, it was my accomplice, who also happens to be my uncle. It was the wind that brought me back to reality, the cold reminded me of what my task was. All of a sudden the noises changed, the silence of the woods broken, as my uncle started to move. He informed me that he was going to walk through the woods and see if he can get a better vantage point. All you could hear was the soft ruffle of the leaves beneath his boots, as he transcended into the woods.
